SUNDAY, 9:30 a.m. morning service; THURS- DAY, 10 a.m. Bible Study. 822-6767 Sister McLaughlin to meet with artists on Sister Dorothy McLaughlin, R.S.M., Ed.D., director of the Graduate Art Therapy Program at Marywood College, Scranton, has been invited by the Citizen Ambas- sador Program of People to People International to join a delegation of 18 to 25 professionals in art educa- tion to visit the People’s Republic of China this summer. An art educator for 27 years and an art therapist for 10, Sister Doro- thy was involved with art education at her alma mater College Miseri- cordia in Dallas for 15 years. She was director of graduate studies at the University of Scranton for two years in a cooperative program between Misericordia and the Uni- versity. On June 1, Sister Dorothy began a year-long sabbatical leave from Marywood, where she founded the art therapy program seven years ago. She will join the art education delegation to China in Seattle, WA, next month. The group will convene on July 13 and return there on Aug. 3 after traveling to five cities - Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Guilin and Hong Kong. The citizen ambassadors will meet with Chinese artists and art educators of major universities to share ideas and experiences as well as the content and method of art instruction at all levels. The dele- gates will also exchange informa- tion about programs for the gifted, the role of art history, crafts, and music education. The China Association for - the Advancement of International Friendship, which is under the Min- istry of Culture, is working with the Citizen Ambassador Program to arrange visits to schools and art academies. China trip Sr. Dorothy McLaughlin Through formal meetings, infor- mal discussion sessions, site visits and social gatherings, the delegates will assess the current state of art education in China. They will also take time to get better acquainted with the Chinese people and their fascinating culture. In January of 1979, Sister Doro- thy was contracted to write the graduate program in art therapy for Marywood. The program opened in the fall of 1980, is cur- rently approved by the American Association of Art Therapy, and is one of 16 programas in the country So approved. Sister Dorothy has an M.A. in Art from Notre Dame University and an Ed.D. in Art Education fromthe University of Pittsburgh. She has also studied art therapy at Hahne- mann University in Philadelphia.
