THE DALLAS POST/Wednesday, April 27, 1988 Spruce up for Spring! Staff Writer Two yearly events that are regarded as the down side of spring are the April payment of income taxes and spring cleaning. I don’t know which is worse--the great ease with which the IRS cleans out our wallets or the drudgery asso- ciated with the sometimes over- whelming task of cleaning of our homes after a long hard winter. Since income tax evasion is ille- gal and unfortunately housework is not, I'd like to offer some tips to help you on your way to a spar- kling clean house with a minimum of physical discomfort and mental anguish to slow you down. Short-cut Number One: Don’t do spring cleaning. I find this works the best. If you keep up with your weekly cleaning it’s not necessary to tear your house apart. Just area as well as women who do this work independently. If you talk to someone who has satisfactorily used such services, they can lead you to a reliable source of cleaning- power. Better yet, get a live-in maid or housekeeper and let them worry about spring cleaning. . Short-cut Number Three: Live in a self-cleaning home. That would certainly solve all my problems. Short-cut Number Four: Combine your efforts with a friend or two. Cleaning can be more enjoyable if you have someone there to share the misery. Also, it’s easier to move the refrigerator or turn the queen-size mattress with a little extra muscle. When one house is done, move on to the next. It may not seem so boring when you're looking out a different set of win dows as you clean them. : Short-cut Number Five: Turn the in the past and now awaits you into infinity. Short-cut Number Six: Don’t run around in circles because it wastes time. Plan your movements to avoid endlessly retracing your steps. Short-cut Number Seven: Always have the right tools on hand. If you wash the kitchen floor with dish detergent because you're out of floor cleaner, you're only going to have to do it over later. Short-cut Number Eight: Don’t have pets, children, or messy Ten free trees avallab The National Arbor Day Founda- tion is giving 10 free Colorado Blue Spruce trees to everyone who becomes a Foundation member during April, 1988. Short-cut Number Nine: Work toward getting housework outlawed in your state. It could be consid- ered cruel and unusual punishment. Write yor legislators about it. Start a grassroots movement - it’s the only way to get anything accom- plished. Homemakers of America, Unite!!! In short, just get through it any way you can. Take heart that you won’t have to put yourself through this again until the fall. At least wl nS don’t get socked with income taxe.~ then, too. e The free trees are part of the non-prefit Foundation’s effort to encourage tree planting for conser- vation and beautification through- out America. mm = " gd Some great tips for spring cleaning TEE oy. ei Rin In on fo pee ius al, apiusss, Bw 08 Sony bt kL £ tackle some of those big jobs peri- odically throughout the year.
