Erika is 7 years old and a 2nd grade student at the Westmoreland School of the Dallas District. She has allowed us to borrow 38 of her angels with the provision that she may come to visit them during the time they spend at the library. Her collection of angels began when her Godmother presented her with one when she was born; since then, she has received one angel with the number on it each year from her Godmother on her birthday. She now has 7 birthday angels. She also receives angels for Christmas each year. One of the agnels was brought over from Germany especially for Erika, it is a wooden angel which holds a candle. There is a dark skinned lounging angel from Hawaii, which her Godmother brought back for Erika when she was on her honeymoon. She has not started to collect the angels for the months of the year, the first one being August, her birth month, and she has December and September angels also. There are 2 very small angels, a white ceramic Goebel and a green angel made with ceramics by her Godmother. There are 2 sets of Christmas angels and 3 small Christmas angels. There are some angels lying and sitting, a cupid angel with wagon and several tiny candles. Some of the angels are from the Christopher Collection, some are Lefton and the number ones are Josef Originals. Erika was excited about being able to display her angels in the library and when she was called to bring them in, her mother allowed her to buy one more special angel which is a large one with a picture of her in the frame, her 2nd grade picture; which is brand new for the library display. These angels are situated on a pale green soft, wooly cloth and are surrounded with powder puff clouds and make a lovely springtime display. These angels welcome visitors and will be at the library until April 27. Three new memory books were recently donated to the library: In memory of Irving Kern, “How to Perfect Your Golf Swing’ presented by Nancy Zekus and Friends at Video World; In memory of Eloise Titman, “St. Clair” presented by Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Cavin and In memory of Irving Kern, “Tempo: Golf’s Master Key” presented by Franklin's Coffee Club. Spring is surely here! Several young girls of a Brownie troop planted daffodils and tulip bulbs between the shrubbery at the library and this week, they are ready to bloom. One purple hyacinth will be in full bloom for Easter, and several daffodils are in bud. We are grateful to this group of young girls and their leaders for making the library so festive.
