BY NANCY KOZEMCAK Library Correspondent The Back Mountain Memorial Library total book circulation for 1987 was 94,520; which included 56,243 adult titles and 38,277 juvenile. Book Club books circulated 3,238 and reference questions totaled 8,328. The library total book inventory as of December 31 is 57,419. Interlibrary loan transactions totaled 447 and there were 1,467 patrons re-registered and 2,239 new borrowers joining the library in 1987. The total number of aBtive borrowers using the library is 11,244. Chuck Waite, our computer friend, visited the library recently and brought with him for our staff and patron use, another computer. The new one is an Amstrad PC-1640, which uses floppy discs and can do many different things such as doodle or paint, draw pictures and includes a menu-selection. It also has a mouse used for drawing. This computer is compatible with IBM-PC and has a color screen compatible with CGA & EGA standards. February was Children’s Dental Health Month and the story hour children had Mrs. Martin McMahon, wife of Dr. Martin, ‘local dentist, speak to them on diet and care of the teeth. She Yo; member of the Luzerne County Dental Auxiliary. The craft p of the program included makign a fun jaw with teeth (made from macaroni and construction paper) which actually opened and closed as a reminder to care for your teeth. There were three sessions of story hour that day with 48 children involved in all. National Engineers Week was held February 21 through the 27. One of our patrons called and asked if we could find out when it was to be held this year and we searched many of our information books in the library, and called many sources and could not find out. I then decided to call the Luzerne County Court House and ask them. I was connected with the Road and Bridge Department and they had the information for me, which made our patron happy. Karen Lambruschi, one of our regular patrons, had her 4 year old child in story hour and was sitting in the reading rod waiting with Anthony, her 6 month old baby, doing some unique quilting. This was a wall hanging done by the Newcomer’s Club and Karen was doing the quilting. It was for an abilities auction sponsored by the club. Karen borrows the books and cassettes from the children’s room and finds them useful for nap time with her children. The children’s room has a sizeable collection of books and cassettes which are very Oopular with parents and children. The library celebrated its third anniversary in the new building on Huntsville Road on March 4. YOUR PIZZA PLACE. OVER 35 YEARS PHARMACY J BRAND NAME & GENERIC DRUGS AT LOW, LOW PRICES!
