Salute to honor high school juniors The 1988 Youth Salute Pro- gram of the Greater Wyoming Valley Chapter of the National Council on Youth Leadership began Tuesday, Feb. 16, with a kickoff luncheon at Gus Genet- ti’s Best Western, Wilkes- Barre, hosted by Rygiel Studio of Wyoming. The program is a means of recognition for grade 11 stu- dents who are not only youn leaders in their respective hig schools but also high academic and leadership achievers. : At the luncheon, John Rygiel, local director and coordinator of Youth Salute, explained that Scholarship awarded Miss Susan E. Miers, a senior at Dallas Senior High School has been selected from among rospective freshman students or a Walton Academic Scholar- ship, Albright College officials have announced. Selection for this $1,000 schol- arship award is based on aca- demic merit, including individ- ual achievement in secondary school studies and performance on college aptitude tests. Recip- ients may be eligible for the renewal award in each of their four college years. Nomination forms may be ob- tained at the local high school guidance offices or at the Ry- giel Studios. Nominations are not made by Rygiel Studio or Citizens’ Voice. Completed nomination appli- cations must be received by John Rygiel no later than March 31, 1988. A photographic essay of each student nominee will become part of an exhibit which will be circulated throughout the area during the summer months, allowing the students to be recognized for their achievements during their senior year. There is no charge to the student or the school. The Citizens’ Voice, under the direction of Robert Manganiello and Paul Golias, is sponsor of the local Youth Salute and pays air fare for the local winner’s trip to St. Louis.
