THE DALLAS POST/Wednesday, February 24, 1988 ‘Round the Mountain Falcone announces candidacy A veteran Luzerne County businessman and community leader, Leonard Falcone, has announced his candidacy for the position of delegate to the Republican National Conven- tion. Falcone, a resident of Kings- ton Township and executive vice president and sales manager of the Falcone Beverage Com- pany, is seeking the post as one who will be committed to Vice President George Bush, cur- rently staging a leading battle for the Republican nomination for president. “I am Following this course of action,” Falcone said, ‘‘because I am firmly convinced that the nation’s best interests rest with Mr. Bush. He is one of the most astute foreign policy experts in government today and has dem- onstrated a strong understand- ing of the domestic problems, that must be addressed in our nation.” A strong participant in com- munity and civic affairs as a volunteer, Falcone is secretary of the Luzerne County Republi- can Executive Committee and secretary of the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. He also is the secretary of th Board of Trustees of the Luzerne County Community College. Dietterick running for re-election Kingston Republican, Scott Dietterick, is announcing his candidacy for re-election as State Representative for the 120th legislative district. ‘““I have enjoyed the chal- lenges of my first term in office, and I continue, to be ‘grateful for the confidence the voters showed me in 1986. I have done my best to honor that trust and to represent my district well in Harrisburg. I am especially pleased to be the prime sponsor ‘of House Bill 1391, which would authorize funding for a fourth veterans’ home. There is a good chance that the home would be situated in the Northeastern section of the state.” Keeping his promise to become a full time legislator, Dietterick has maintained a perfect 100 percent voting and attendance record since being elected. He is a member of the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, Transporta- tion Committee, and Republican Policy Committee. Prior to Dietterick’s election to the House of Representatives, he served nine years on Kings- ton council. A U.S. Navy Vet- eran, he was Past President of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Jay- cees and Independent Insurance Agents of Wyoming Valley. He is also a 20 year member of Independent Fire Co. No. 1, Kingston, American Legion Post 395, Kingston, Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, West Side Blood Council, Dial-A- Driver, Church of Christ Uniting and various Masonic bodies. Mrs. Meeks also serves on the UMHA board of directors and th Wesley Village local development committee. The five-year, $5 million capital campaign, which officially began November 30, is designed to secure funds for designated needs within the UMHA. Pledges and contributions total about $2,500,000, half the cam- paign goal. “That’s a 22 percent increase over the amount initially pledged during the advance gift phase’, said David Fanning, campaign director. Fanning is also the UMHA director of institutional advancement. : The “Campaign for the Future” is now in the leadersh phase. Contributions will be solicited from board members, major donors, corporations and foundations, Fanning said. Victor J.
