A quiet, modest individual, Lori hesitated to talk about her contributions to this season’s team. Few fans realize the amount of work she put into the game and her dedication. As aggressive on the field as she is modest off the field, Lori refused to give up in a game and her consistency in coming from behind to assist in a score, or scoring the goal herself, won many games for the Mountai- neers. Lori kept the other team members’ enthusiasm high by continuous words of encourage- ment on and off the field. She was one of the swiftest players we saw paly during this past season and always appeared to be in the right place at the right time. Lori scored nine goals and had six assists during the year. She attributes this year’s team’s success to the fact that they put forth great team effort on the field and to the outstand- ing work of their first year goaltender Eileen Walsh. Lori expects next year’s team to be even better than this year’s was since there will be many juniors returning and some good freshmen will be coming into the program. Slocum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Slocum of Lehman, has been playing field hockey for the past six years. She became interested in the game through her sister. As captain of this season’s team, Susie kept up the morale of the other players and refused to give up even when the team fell behind. Through her deter- mination and aggressiveness, the team won a number of its games by a narrow one point margin. Susie led the Wyoming Valley Conference in the number of goals scored as well as in the number of game- winning goals. Susie attributes the team’s success to a lot of hard work and a strong team effort. ‘““My role as captain was easy,”’ she said. “I kept encour- aging the other girls and refused to let them give up. We have 14 seniors graduating this year and there will be a lot of young players next season, but they have great talent and can win if the want to badly enough.” Susie attributes her success to the support she received from her family. Some members of the family were always at the games and at practice. Her parents were great athletes as were her brothers and sister. Selected by various media as MVP this year, Susie plans to attend college, either Blooms- burg, West Chester or College Misericordia, depending on whether or not she receives a scholarship. She is an honor student with a 3.3 average. With field hockey behind her for this year, Susie is looking ahead to softball in the spring. Fly (Continued from page 13) He then takes the finger with the fur and rubs it around the thread and wraps it around the body, making a thicker body on the fly. Wherever Brian goes, he looks for feathers he can use- dove feathers, chicken feath- ers, any kind of feathers, including stray pheasant feathers. Although e makes both wet anddry flies, most of them are wet flies (they sink deeper into the water than dry). He makes tiny gnat flies that look so real one expects to see them fly from the table. These are great for trout and other small fish Brian says. He also makes streamers such as Black Gnats, Bucktail Keel, Royal Coachman, Muddle Minnows, Crayfish, Blacknose Dace and Mickey Finns. The Buck- tail flies are used for bass. Since the first fly he made in June, Brian has made dozens and dozens of them, many of which he has given to friends as gifts. “There’s nothing like step- ping on a hook or getting one in your sock, or finding wool and feathers all over the carpeting, but it’s worth it, just to see the progress Brian has made in the past five months,” said his parents, Al and Joann.
