Quilters Joanne Ennis, Kathy Mil- lington, Donna Goobic and Margie Hovan will present a variety of workshops during the two-day event which, in the past, has attracted more than 2000 visitors from across the country. The activities will include antique quilt displays, lec- tures, door prizes, a slide show of the “Great American Quilt Show’’ and homemade food provided at the Campus Commons. Workshops will be presented continuously both days beginning at 10 a.m. “Getting Started,” a workshop on quilting basics for beginners will be presented Saturday at 3 p.m. Instructor Donna Goobic, of Shick- shinny, is founder of the Pennsyl- vania Quilters Association and has been instructing quilting workshops for eight years. This beginners workshop will include fabric selec- tion, patterns, tools, cutting, piecing and the basics of applique. Ms. Goobic will also offer a workshop entitled “Finishing It Off’, which will cover how to miter corners, bind off a quilt and double miter your binding - all the touches needed to make a quilt complete. Joanne Ennis, of Dallas, instruc- tor, and Kathy Millington, of Dallas, graphic design assistant, will present a workshop for beginners on Strip Pieced Picture Quilts Satur- day and Sunday from 3-5 p.m. Participants will graph their own pictures and a demonstration model will be worked from start to finish. Ms. Ennis has been teaching quilt- ing for more than five years, and has instructed groups of all ages. Kathy Millington, Graphic Design Assistant from Dallas, has art certi- fication from College Misericordia and taught art at the Dallas Junior High School. She is the Secretary of the Wyoming Valley Art League. A workshop in ‘Quick Pieced Triangles” will be presented by Margie Hovan, of Tunkhannock, both Saturday and Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Ms. Hovan has taught begin- ning quilting in the Tunkhannock Area School District for four years, and will teach participants how to use a quick piecing method for triangles using a sewing machine. This method saves a great deal of time and is extremely accurate. Participants will complete their own triangle during class. Guest artists are Virginia Avery, of Port Chester, N.Y., well-known teacher, author, lecturer and Gladys Grace, of Promfret Center, Connecticut, who has 20 years of experience in stencilling and quilt- ing, and has conducted seminars and lectures throughout the country. Ms. Avery will conduct an all-day workshop on “Hawaiian Applique” on Saturday, and ‘Contemporary Floral Applique” on Sunday. Ms. Grace will hold a workshop on “Shaded Stenciling on Fabric” Sat- urday morning and Sunday after- noon.
