DER AIH i Sports THE DALLAS POST/Wednesday, August 27, 1986 9. By CHARLOT M. DENMON For The Dallas Post Spring Street, Shavertown, could be appropri- ately named the ‘Street of Champions’ since four members of 1986 championship teams live on the one-block long street. Mike Viglone, Scott Bearley, Krystyn Moyer and Tim Moyer, residents of Spring Street, played on championship teams in the Back Mountain this season. Ranging in age from nine to 17, none of them were members of the same team, same league nor same division. Mike Viglone, age 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Viglone, pitches or plays shortstop. This season he played on the Minor League also was a membner of the eight and nine-year old Back Mountain All Star, team, who took the 4th Annual Exeter Tournament for eight-and- nine-year-olds. After the All Stars won the preliminary round, Mike fanned 11 batters to lead the local team to a win over Pittston advancing them to the final round where the Back Mountain All- Stars took the tournament title by defeating a strong Swoyersville team. Twelve-year-old Scott Bearley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bearley, has been a member of Little League for the past four years. This past season he pitched and played shortstop for the Major League Orioles, who came in second in their division. He was selected as a member of the Back Mountain American All Stars where he played shortstop and second base. The American team lost its first game, dropping it to the B bracket where they went on to take the “B’”’ championship title. : Scott was then selected as a member of the combined American-National Back Mountain All Stars team that won the Wilkes-Barre Recreation Board Tournament by shutting out Duryea 12-0. Scott’s sister, Joy, was a member of the Senior Girls Yankee team, coached this year by Mary Meighan. They took the league championship. Joy, a junior in high school, is now in Belgium as an American Exchange Krystyn Moyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moyer, played with the Back Mountain White Sox. She also played with the Back Mountain American League All Stars, the team that copped the District Championship; won the first round in sectional play before losing 10-6 to Guilford in the finals. Krystyn, who will be in sixth grade at Dallas Junior High this year, played as catcher in nearly every game and was also a relief pitcher. She has been playing softball for three years and is looking forward to playing again next season. Krystyn’s brother, Tim Moyer, played on All Star teams in Little League, Teeners and this year, on the American Legion team. The team, coached by Jack Wolensky took the Northern Division championship. Tim is also a talented basketball player, playing varsity for the Dallas Mountaineers for the past three years. He is now attending Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus, majoring in business administration. Only 17 years of age, Tim played on the Dallas High School baseball team and is also planning to play on the American Legion team next year. His father was coach five of the six years Tim played before he advanced to high school baseball. These Spring Street residents come from baseball families since Tom Moyer played baseball when in Hershey; the late Mike Stanley, Mike Viglone’s grandfather having played with the Wilkes-Barre Barons; and Bob Bearley coaching in the Little League. In any event, residents of Spring Street, a street with only a dozen or so homes, are proud of their 1986 champions, proud to have them in their neighborhoods.
