Another Disney motion picture
back in the 1960s starring Hayley
was ‘“‘Summer Magic.” The movie,
which brought such enjoyment to
motion picture audiences, also fea-
tured Burl Ives, Dorothy McGuire,
Eddie Hodges and Deborah Walley.
“Summer Magic’’ was shortly fol-
lowed by “In Search of the Casta-
ways,” again starring Hayley Mills,
and also Maurice Chevalier. This
Disney production was based on the
intriguing tale of a search, amid a
series of natural disasters and muti-
neers, for a lost sea captain.
With such a multitude of appear-
ances in Disney productions, Hayley
Mills became a major star in the
United States. She was featured on
magazine covers; her record
albums sold well, and fan clubs
were quickly organized in her
honor. However, once Hayley left
the Disney fold, her popularity
faded. Not much has been heard of
her since that period.
Surprisingly, many believe
Hayley to be related to Donna Mills
(“Knots Landing’’). No relation,
Hayley is the daughter of British
Board
approves
actor John Mills and playwright
Mary Hayley Bell. Since her depar-
ture from Disney, she has been at
home in England rearing two sons
from previous marriages, and
appearing on stage and screen. In
1982, Hayley was featured in ‘‘The
Flame Trees of Thicka,” which
aired on PBS, and in 1984, she
narrated a a Disney Channel spe-
cial.
Movie viewers will now be waiting
in eager anticipation for the theatri-
cal features the Disney Studio plans
to release as well as for the return
of Hayley Mills to a starring role in
a Disney movie once more.

In regard to the Disney Channel,

Hayley Mills in a Disney Channel
movie, ‘“The Parent Trap II.”
Hayley, early in her career,
starred in many popular Disney
movies. She became a favorite of
the American public with her role in
‘“‘Pollyanna.’” Many remember
Hayley’s performance in the origi-
nal “The Parent Trap,” starring
Maureen O’Hara and Brian Keith.
She played a dual role as the twins,
Susan and Sharon, determined to
reconcile their separated parents. It
was an entertaining movie, inter-
mixing high confusion, comedy and
music including the song ‘‘Let’s Get
program at Lake-Lehman, brought
up at last month’s meeting of the
school board, was successfully
approved at the meeting of the
board held Tuesday, April 8. The
board reconsidered its veto of the
proposal last month and voted unan-
imously to hire Lynn Coury as girls
softball team assistant and Mark
Boyle as assistant coach for boys
track.
The reconsideration by the board
came after several residents pub-
licly spoke out on the additional
hiring of coaches, saying that the
veto of the proposal was a threat to
the safety of the children in the
sports program due to lack of
assistant coaches.
In other action, the board
approved the appointment of Irene
Zaleskas and Mrs. Debra Roberts
as volunteer medical chaperones for
the senior class trip to Washington.
