Fries honored
‘Miss Kiersten Fries, Dallas, was honored recently for her dedication as drum major for the
Dallas High School Band by community member and Dallas supporter Mr. Bill Kubis. Mr. Kubis
presented Miss Fries with a photograph and plague. The photograph is one which Mr. Kubis had
taken while he was in attendance at an event where Kiersten and the band performed. The
plague accompanying the photo dedicates the award to her because she exemplifies Mr. Kubis'’
-motto of ‘‘confidence with determination.”’ Mr. Kubis made the presentation of the award,
which will be on display in the school’s trophy case, in the hopes that Kiersten’s example and
its recognition in this award night inspire future students to value and prize such standards of
excellence. Pictured at the awards ceremony, from left, are Dr. Thomas Cypher, District
Secondary Principal; Miss Fries, Mr. Kubis, Mr. Gerald Wycallis, Superintendent; Mrs. Grace
Reishus, mother of Miss Fries and Mr. Frank Galicki, Assistant Principal, Senior High School.

WYOMING VALLEY has become
an area with great ecumenical
spirit during the recent Christmas
holidays, members and friends of
B’nai B-rith under the spiritual
leadership of Rabbi Arnold Shevlin
spent Christmas Day working in
General Hospital’s Hospitality Shop
so that regular employees and vol-
unteers could spend the day with
their families.
I have also
noticed that
many area
churches = have |
donated funds to
St. Vincent De
Paul Soup
Kitchen. Regard-
less of denomina-
tion, it seems
area residents
are happy to help
each other. After-
all, isn’t that
what religion is all about?

to take in a movie on Sunday
afternoon so we went to the mall
and enjoyed the who done it Clue.
This is really funny, and very mys-
terious until the last minutes of the
movie. Mystery lovers shouldn’t
miss it.

BISHOP O’REILLY PARENTS
are working very hard to raise
additional funds for the high school.
Last weekend a dance featuring the
Poets, a group that performs a
rendition of 50’s songs, was held at
the Knights of Columbus home in
Luzerne. The dance was a sellout,
since many folks have seen The
ance on previous visits to the
Valley.
Additional upcoming fund raisers
for the school are a Night at the
Races on Feb. 1 and the annual
Spring Bazaar. Plan to attend, have
lots of fun and give Bishop O'Reilly
a little financial help.

OUR SON, BILLY, a kindergarte=i
ner, is learning how to print. This
can be a very tedious process, sO:
whenever the chance arises, for:
instance when placing milk money:
in an envelope, I allow him to print:
what the money is for, thus giving:
him some practice.
One morning Billy picked up a
pen and began to write ‘Billy
Kingsbury, Milk Money, 25c¢’.
Everything went fine until he got to
the M’s. In a frantic voice he called’
to me, “Oh no! It’s turning into a:
W.” T rescued the M, and assured.
him that this could happen to’
anyone. Who says a six year old’s:
life is easy. il
