Home-Health Services of Luzerne County will now offi- cially be called ‘Visiting Nurse Association-Home-Health Services”. In announcing the name change, Administrator Mary Ann Keirans stated that ‘Most of the people in Luzerne County still refer to us as the Visiting Nurses. We feel that going back to the name Visiting Nurse Association helps to convey our special status as the only local voluntary non-profit home health agency, and the only one that receives United Way support.” Mrs. Keirans summed up the feel- ings of the staff and Board of Directors when she said, ‘“We are happy to be going back to what best describes who we are and what we do. The name Visiting Nurse Asso- ciation-Home Health Services feels comfortable. We are proud to be using this title once again.” Originating in 1908 as the Wilkes- Barre Visiting Nurse Association, the agency was merged over the years with other community VNA’s in Luzerne County. Most of the focus in the early days was on caring for children, but with the recent population shifts the major- ity of the patients receiving home care now are elderly. In 1984 the staff of the Visiting Nurse Association made 132,000 home visits to over 5,000 Luzerne County residents with a wide range of health problems, including dia- betes, strokes. heart and lung dis- eases, cancer, and other serious illnesses. -— Route 309, Dallas, Pa. wii es (Between Gino's & Dallas Shopping Center) NOW FINANCING OFFERING AVAILABLE 675-1138 ORTHODONTICS ® VAPORIZERS Sy LL] 4h nr 5
