Werner
finishes
career
Dr. Robert E. Werner, Wilkes
College Professor of Commerce and
Finance, was honored by his col-
leagues at ceremonies marking his
recent retirement. Werner, a. 30-
year member of the Wilkes faculty,
was presented with a plaque bear-
ing the inscription, ‘‘Bob Werner -
Teacher, Scholar, Friend - From
His Colleagues, Wilkes College,
1955-1985."
Werner joined the Wilkes faculty
in 1955 as a professor of Economics.
In 1972, he was named Chairman of
the Commerce and Finance Depart-
ment, a position he held until 1979.
Concert held
Dallas Intermediate School Fifth
and Sixth Grade Bands presented a
seasonal concert in December
before a large audience of parents
and friends.
Those in the ensembles were clari-
netists Alison Labatte, Eric Cloth-
ier, Jennifer Coon, Heather Hodne,
saxophonists Brian Jayne, Joe
Bobeck; trumpeters Emily Russin,
Shannon Hoyt, John Prebola, Jim
Reynolds, Erik Ursiak, Paul May
was baritone horn soloists with band
accompaniment.
Members of the bands by instru-
ments are: Oboe-Kris Gurdin,
Alison Gager, Monique Matthews,

Vets collect toys :
The Veterans Club at Penn State Wilkes-Barre held its annual Toys for Tots campaign at the
local campus in Lehman. The faculty, staff and students donated new and good-as-new toys
and games as well as money which will be distributed to local needy children through the U.S.
Marine Corps Training Center in Wyoming. Shown here, from left, are John Rusnak, Kingston,

marathon roller skating
event. The event was held
recently at the Kingston
Roller King Skating Center.
Money raised by pledges will
go to Big Brothers-Big Sis-
ters agency which was
chosen as this year's serv
ice project by Penn State:
