DENMON Staff Correspondent Junior High School Girls Basket- ball teams of the Wyoming Valley Junior High League are busy prac- ticing for the opening of their 1985- 86 season. Both Dallas and Lake- Lehman Junior High girls are look- ing forward to. the opening games with enthusiasm. After a year’s layoff, back at the helm at Dallas are Tom Kilduff and Bill Straitiff, while at Lake-Lehman Susan James, assisted by Cheryl : Travis, is back coaching the young Black Knights. Approximately 40 girls are out for the teams at Dallas. About 20 of these will be selected as members of the varsity team, 10 for the jayvees, and the remaining 10, younger girls with no experience, will play as a “learning” group, developing basic skills of the game. Head Coach Kilduff explained that it is a rebuilding year at Dallas since last year’s championship team was loaded with ninth graders. “This means we have a lot of work ahead of us, sharpening skills and learning to play as a team but we have a lot of good athletes and we expect to be one of the top } teams.” The 30 girls who make up the varsity and jayvee teams will alter- ? nate between the two teams i throughout the year, with the excep- tion of the starters. As the third group begins to progress, some of : these girls will advance to the g second team. Possible ninth grade starters | include Jennifer Vloedman, Tracey Hunter, Lori Cave and Lisa Hite. Eighth grade player Laura Poyn- ton is an excellent athlete and a very possible starter. Other eighth grade players with potential include Jennifer Besecker, Jean Novitski, Laura Bullock, Brenda Olson, Patti Mahle, Wendy Hozempa and Sue Steinkirschner. Possible varsity starter is seventh EPS EPR FAR IR IAB PAIS, a a TV & APPLIANCE grade player Kara Cherup. Other seventh grade potentials include Melanie Langdon, Lisa McCafferty, Mollie Connolly, Aria Pierson and Erin Johnson. Dallas has a tall team for junior high and the girls are fast. They will probably use a pressure defense and the team will count on Poynton for collecting points. Kilduff and Straitiff have a lot of depth in this season’s team and plan to use 10 to 16 girls in a game. jb A BT WT ND WW 2 WW SN Wp Wp I A IA) Lay-A-Way Plan Available Sales & Repairs Guaranteed 283 Wyoming Ave., Kingston (Across From The Hoyt Library) Eve. 6-8, Sat. 9:30-3:30 BRUNSWIC CENTURY *8 or 9 Ft.
