ARSE ’ = S y U-10 PLAYOFFS The first day of single elimination tournament play in the U-10 Divi- sion was one filled with exciting and hard-fought contests. The Express battled the Sockers to a 5-3 win early in the morning. Carra Giar- dina, Nelson Downend and Matt Williams were scorers for the Express as was Danny Lukasavage with 2 goals to his credit. The Sockers three goals were made by a great team effort, with Corey Cherup scoring one of them. Socker goalie Billy Belles also came up with an all-out effort. - The Sting defeated the Kicks 4-1 in. a heated confrontation. The Sting’s Patrick Costello made goal, then Carlo Santarelli assisted by Michael Petrusko; then Amy John- son assisted by Michael Petrusko and Carlo Santarelli. For thefourth quarter The Sting’s Michael Petrusko made a smashing goal, _ assisted by teammate Kevin Sours. The fourth quarter also saw the Kick’s lonegoal scored by Robert Kane. For an exciting game marked by relentless offensive charges and - great defensive play by both teams, the Fury edged the Strikers 1-0. For the amazingly fast-paced fourth quarter bot hteams had numerous scoring opportunities as the ball ~ went furiously from one end of thefield to the other and finally with 2 minutes 30 seconds to play, Nick Sabatini scored for the Fury. Ryan Finn made numerous unbe- lievable saves in the goak, giving an all-out effort for the Strikers. Fury goalies Chris Miller and Darrin Dixon also gave tremendous defen- sive play for the Fury. Excelling on defense for the Fury were Steve Batory, Alisa Merolli, Kevin McDonald and Alex Valentine. In another defensive battle, the Cosmos squeeked by the Comets 1- 0; Cosmos goalie Gary Farber was able to stave off the opposing for- ward’s efforts to score. Sean Calla- han once again led his team to victory as he scored the winning goal in the second quarter. ~ Rain plagued the late afternoon game between the Stallions and the Lancers. A hard shower and a slippery, sloppy field made play difficult as the Stallions marched through the Lancers 12-0. Scoring was dominated by Will Woronko, who scored 7 goals. Another tal- ented forward Paul Bigus gave an outstanding effort as he scored 4 goals for the Stallions. Brian Matosky also kicked a score and Mike Viglone was great on assists. Stallion goalies David Thomas and Bryon Gainey were able to hold off goalie Phillip Gager: gave valiant effort against the onslaught of the talented Stallions. For the last game of the day, the Chargers pounded the Roughnecks . 5-0. Jason Seward kicked two goals for the Chargers and teammates Jeff Moons, Carolyn Geist and Jared Cooney each made a goal. Other scores were Wings 5, Arrows 0. In the second round of the U-10 Division playoffs the winners were the Express, the Cosmos, the Stal- lions and the Rowdies. The Express managed to keep the Sting scoreless as they won 3-0. Consistent scorers Danny Lukasa- vage, assisted by Matt Williams; and Matt Williams assisted by Danny Lukasavage tallied the score for the Express. The winning team’s goalie Jeff Farley held off the oppo- nents while the Sting’s Kevin Sours held his own in the goal. Saturday’s games have the Express up against the Cosmos at 9 a.m. and the Stallions and Rowdies facing off at 10:30. Winners will play for championship honors on Sunday at 1:30 with all 3 games at Lehman. U-12 PLAYOFFS All U-12 Division playoff games were played on Saturday despite the gloomy skies overhead and the _ afternoon showers. In the first contest of the day the Kicks controlled passing style led them to victory over the Fury 6-2. The Kicks found the nets early in the game with Jason Rogers, jason Mattey and Casey Kernag each tallying once. The second half action saw the Fury make a come- back with goals by Sue Richardson and Steve Buckley, but the Kicks answered back with a second goal . for Mattey and Rogers and a great header into the net by Kevin Chap- ple off a pass from John Morris. Eve Figueroa and Emily Waligorski were outstanding on the Kicks defense with both girls breaking up several Fury drives to the goal. The next game of the day had the Arrows on top of the Comets 6-1. Brian Miller led the Arrows with three goals and some great first half goalkeeping. Mike Wagner, Laurel Moore and Amy Trynoski also scored for the winners while Greg Choi put in thelone Comets’ goal in the third quarter. The last quarter was a defensive struggle with no one able to score. Lady Knight Donna Zampetti led the netters in serving and Stephanie Kukosky’s spiking helped the Knights take the first set 15-6. They dropped the second set 15-11 to the Patriots but came back strong to take the third set in a close 15-12 win. The Lake-Lehman girls blanked GAR 2-0, Thursday, sweeping by the Grenadiers 15-4 and 15-0, doing some of their best serving this season. GAR took a 4-2 lead in the first game, but Lady Knight Lori Cannon served for points on the next 13 serves for Lake-Lehman’s win. In the second set, Denise Davis served eight points in a row to close out the win. The Lake-Lehman junior varsity lost to the young Grenadiers 16-14, 15-6. DALLAS LOSES A young Dallas team lost to visit- ing Meyers 2-0, who swept the sets 15-7 and 15-2. The Dallas junior varsity defeated the Meyers JV girls 15-7 and 15-12, after dropping the first set 8-15. Pacing the Dallas JV’s were Lori Brokenshire with 14 service points and Jennifer Vloedman with seven. Lori Cave and Adra Shina added six each. : West Side Tech girls dropped the first set 11-15 to the Lady Mounts but took the next two sets 15-1 and 15-9, Tuesday, at the West Side school. Tracy Ankchulak had 14 points for the Titans. Jill Jobson led the Dallas girls with 10 points. League play ends this week with Nov. 2 the District deadline.
