ITALIAN Dallas Post/Ed Campbell Ice cream dippers Kelly Gulvas, left, and Cyndy Wielgosz, employees of the Hillside Farm Dairy Ice Cream Store, prepare to dip heaping cones of ice cream for their customers. Some of the best ice cream Is right here In own town By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent With area residents planning tours through the Back Mountain and Endless Mountains region to view the annual flaming foliage, high on their list of priorities should be a visit to the Hillside Farms Inc. Ice Cream Store. ; There they can enjoy a panoramic view of the bright reds, oranges, yellows against a background of dark evergreens and earth browns while they enjoy some of the Conyngham Brothers fresh, homemade ice cream. That’s right - homemade, natural, fresh ice cream, made daily right on the premises. Managers Will and Frank Conyngham and their staff serve fresh ice cream, cones, sundaes, shakes, floats and ice cream sodas to their customers. Their business is uigye in that they are the only ice cream parlor in this area, who raiSes the crops to feed their herd of cows, who give the milk from which the Conynghams make their ice cream. As Will Conygham so aptly remarked at the time of the ice cream parlor’s opening the end of June, “Our slogan could be ‘From corn to cow to cone’.” The large airy ice cream parl “with green tile matching the deep green evergreens and beautifully“tandscaped lawn has large, sliding windows from which customers can admire the beatity of the flowers and plants from Hillside Farms Greenhouses or watch the ducks walking around the area as well as othe wildlife frolicing among the trees and bushes in the area. No artist could paint a view more beautiful than the large rare copper beech tree highlighting the overall rustic view. Sitting on the comfortable, light oak ice cream chairs or benches at the butcher blocked topped tables, customers can leisurely enjoy a delectable sundae, ice cream cone, mik shake, float or ice cream soda. There are 34 flavors from which to choose for either cones or dishes and 19 toppings, among them a favorite to make a sundae ‘‘fit for a king,” or ‘queen’, whatever the case might be. For the conventional ice cream eater, there are regular flavors such as yanilla, French vanilla, cherry vanilla, chocolate, straw- berry, peach or sherbet. For those who enjoy ice cream with nuts, they’ll find luscious chocolate almond, maple walnut, butter pecan. Like peanut butter? Then a must is Hillside’s peanut butter cup, peanut butter almond cluster or vanilla peanut butter cheesecake. Chocolate fanciers have a variety of flavors from which to choose such as chocolate chip, orange chocolate, cherry chocolate, chocolate pretzel, or chocolate marshmallow. For the more daring, we recommend raisin rum, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry and for the Fall holidays be sure to take home some of the ice cream parlor’s ‘unsurpassed’ pumpkin ice cream. An ideal dessert for Halloween, Thanksgiving or Yuletide entertain- ing, don’t overlook it! ‘Tis said ‘‘toppings make the sundae” and if that is so, Hillside Ice Cream Parlor cannot be excelled. Hot fudge, hot butterscotch, strawberry, pineapple, whipped cream, cherry jubilee, pineapple raisinettes, M&M’s, snow caps, Reese’s piees, walnuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts, marshmallow, blueberry, chocolate sprinkle, or a favorite of the younger crowd, sprinkles. Remember the Banana Split? Try Hillside’s-just like the banana split of days long gone - three large scoops of ice cream (name your flavors), two toppings, rich real whipped cream, marshmallow, and nuts on lengthwise sliced bananas. You name it, they’ll make it - at Hillside Farms Inc. Ice Cream Parlor, open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., just half a mile from the Dallas-Luzerne Highway, at Hillside. “The very best ice cream — at Hillside you’ll find it.” % OF J314lFS Midtown Village, Wilkes-Barre FRIDAY SPECIAL - SHRIMP SCAMPI over Rice Salad .. 6.95 PLAN YOUR HOLIDAY PARTIES EARLY HAPPY HOUR 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.
