Meyers quarterback Gene Maffei had intended to throw a
pass but Lake-Lehman’s Jim Nelligan had different ideas as
he nailed Maffei for a loss. Nelligan and his Black Knight
teammates recorded a 15-14 victory over the Mohawks
Saturday afternoon.
Following are scores from games
played in the Back Mountain Mini
Football Organization:
. NORTHEAST
October 6, found the Cowboys
playing host to the Northeast Cru-
saders. In the game, Bob Barbacci
opened a hole in the Crusaders line,
and plowed for a 10 yard T.D.
The extra point attempt found
running back Dave Kaczmarkek
scamper around the left end of the
Crusaders line for the point after.
The Cowboys next scoring drive
ended following a pitch out to J.J.
Stagis with a pass back to QB Clark
Van Orden for a 10 yard T.D. Jim
Fry’s run for the extra point was
good.
QB Van Orden was again to the
air finding Bill Jesse in the Knight's
end zone for a two yard T.D. play.
The point was no good.
The Cowboys shined, both offen-
sively and defensively as they held
the Crusaders deep in their own
territory for most of the game.
Although playing some scrappy
football, the Crusaders were on the
losing end of this one, finale score
Cowboys 22, Northeast 0.
The Cowboy B team had rough
going in the first quarter as the
Crusaders stopped them cold. How-
ever, coming back big in the
Selenski one to running back Fred
Rosencrans was good for a three
yard TD. The point failed. The
second reception, this time to left
end Steve Gaydos was good for a 3
yard T. Again, the point failed.
Early in the fourth quarter, run-
ning back Jeremiah Van Orden,
with the aid of some fine footwork,
dashed 20 yards into the Crusaders
end zone. Point after failed.
The Cowboys final score came on
a hard fought three yard run by Bob
Jesse. The extra point was good, via
a quarterback sneak by Selenski.
Final score, Cowboys 26, North-
east 0.
Good defensive play by Mike
Gerwin, Bob Jesse and Tony Bealla
was instrumental in getting the
Cowboys good field position. Again
this week, Bealla, who kicks of for
the Cowboys had a fine day, keeping
the Crusaders chasing the ball deep
in their own territory.
LAKE-LEHMAN
The Dallas Cowboys both A and B
teams nothed up two more victories
within the past three weeks. Sep-
tember 22, saw the Cowboys travel
to Lake-Lehman to face the Black
Knights. S
In the A game, the Cowboys
wasted little time getting on the
scoreboard as converted linesman
Bob Barbacci, rumbled 11 yards for
the first Cowboy score. The extra
point attempt failed.
Lightning struck again quickly, as
J.J. Stragis found an opening in the
Knights defensive line and scored
on a 25 yard scamper. The point
after was made by Bob Barbacci.
Barbacci was to come back again,
this time on a 50 yard gallop into
the Knights end zone. The Cowboys
scoring for the afternoon was over.
Top notich interior line blocking
was instrumental in all scoring
drives.
