Only open two months,
Village Bistro well known
By CHARLOT M. DENMON
Staff Correspondent
The modern, conveniently located restaurant in Midtown Plaza, 41
South Main Street, has been open for only two months, but is already
becoming well known in dining circles for its delicious and original
lunches and dinners.
The Village Bistro, though French in name, offers a variety of
traditional entrees as well as some original gourmet dishes prepared
by Bonnie Shonk, a chef with 14 years experience.
Sharon Schulman, owner of the Village Bistro, has shown excellent
taste in decorating the restaurant in soft tones of blue, accented with
splashes of pink. Light wood tables and chairs as well as French open
screens strategically placed and coordinating prints on the walls give
a light, airy atmosphere which immediately puts diners at ease. Soft
dinner music played on a player piano accompanies the dinner hour
and helps diners relax after a hectic day.
A private diningroom is being completed and bookings are now
being taken for Christmas and other holiday parties. Between this
new room and the present diningroom, more than 100 persons can be
accommodated with ease. Parking for the restaurant is just across
South Main Street at Park and Lock and, for a minimum check of
$4.00, parking is free.
Lunch and dinner specials are offered daily in addition to the
regular menu and Bonnie the Chef can make a traditional sandwich
taste like a gourmet dish.
Among the favorites of luncheon patrons are the Bistro’s Mini-Club
Sandwich, Beef and Turkey Bar-B-Q’s, and Oriental Chicken or
Shrimp dishes. Other favorites include Bonnie’s Seafood Combo,
Lasagna, Veal Parmagiana, Stuffed Chicken Breast, Steak Sharon,
Shrimp a la Pernell, Smoky Ribs and Broiled Fish of the day.
An all-service bar is stocked with everything needed to make the
diners’ favorite drinks. California wines from the William Wycliff
Vineyards may be purchased by the carafe, half carafe or glass.
Everything is prepared fresh daily on the premises from the soups
and sauces, the entrees and the desserts and dinner are served all
day with the exception of the hot appetizers which are served from 4
p.m. to closing.
The Village Bistro also serves Belgium Waffles all day, either plain
or with ice cream.
The Village Bistro is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Friday
and Saturday; 11 am. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reservations for private parties may be made by calling the
restaurant. Sharon’s general manager is Geffrey Nice of Kingston;
her head waiter is Jeffrey Ide of the Back Mountain.
For an entirely different but pleasant dining experience, try the
Village Bistro. You'll like it.
