For more than half a century, Castle Inn located on the Harveys
Lake Highway midway between Dallas and the inlet to the lake has
been a popular spot for dining.
Residents of the local area as well as people from surrounding
counties are familiar with the excellent cuisine served by past and
present owners and return regularly for one or more of the specials.
The two-story, partially stone structure provides an atomosphere
pleasing to everyone. For a small family or club wishing to celebrate
a birthday, anniversary, or retirement, there is the fireside room
where dining can be in privacy without the bother of preparation or
serving. For those diners just out for the evening, there is the grill
room, with its Old London lanterns, brass candlesticks and huge
stone fireplace reminding one of a rustic hunting lodge. High-backed,
red-leather upholstered booths along the wall afford privacy for
groups of two or four while in the center of the room larger parties
can be accommodated at the tables with low-back chairs.
A large diningroom with a small service bar is ideal for weddings
and banquets and for groups of 200 or more the owners, Allen
Roberts, and his son, Allen, Jr., can accommodate them at their
Independence Ballroom, Kingston.
For years, the Castle Inn has been famous for its Italian-American
cuisine and the Roberts family has continued that reputation. In
addition, there are also a variety of other delicious specials as well as
the regulars. All food is prepared on the premises and each entree is
prepared to order under the watchful eye of Allen Roberts, Jr., who
shares the culinary duties.
Beef lovers come to the Castle for prime rib where either a “his”
or “her” cut is available and the meat done exactly to order, so
succulent it literally “melts’’ in one’s mouth. Veal connoiseurs will
find no fault with the Veal Piccata smothered with mushrooms and
blended in lemon butter sauce, or the Veal Ala Pallazzo, sauteed in
mushrooms, onions, spinach and bacon andserved with Alfredo
sauce.
Pork and lamb are also on the menu at the Castle and offered in a
variety of ways, some of the favorites being the stuffed pork loin, or
the rack of fresh baked lamb.
Roast duck is still a popular entree with diners at the Castle but
Allen recommends that diners call in advance for this delicacy in
order to allow time for proper preparation.
There are plenty of seafood items or chicken entrees for the diners
who do not want red meat. From lobster, king crab, flounder,
shrimp, to Coq Au Vin, Chicken Parmagiana or Roast Turkey - there
Clams Casino, shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, a variety of
juices, are justa few of the appetizers on the menu and to complete
dinner, there are homemade desserts such as Apple Crisp, rice
pudding, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, peanut butter pie, and
sometime Baklava.
Castle Inn is one of the few dining places where two vegetables are
served family style with dinneras well as a condiment tray and a
tray of fresh, Italian bread.
Each day specials are featured - always appetizers and entrees
that are favorites and gourmet.
The Castle also caters to birthdays and if you celebrate your
birthday at the Castle, yow’ll receive your dinner free if you have
advance reservations and proper identification.Go and take your
family and friends. Make it an evening of enjoyment and gourmet
dining.
If you want something special, just contact the staff in advance. If
at all possible, they will be happy to prepare your favorite meal for
you. Just call and make reservations, Tuesday through Saturday, 5
p.m. to 10 p.m.
