Dallas and Lake-Lehman High School soccer teams
won their opening games during the first week of
league play.
Coach Jim McCafferty’s team defeated Crestwood 3-
0 in the opening day league match and on Thursday,
they blanked Bishop Hafey 7-0, with both games
played at the Mountaineers field.
In the game with Crestwood on Tuesday, Jimmy
Lister scored two of the goals and John Tinner scored
the third.
The Mountaineers had 36 shots on goal, but socred
only three times for a poor percentage. They had 11
corners and the Comets had one. Goalie Gerry Montrose 7-3, Tuesday, Sept. 10, and Crestwood 6-2 Strikers 4, Roughnecks 0; Cosmos 3, assist from Schrlau. Billy King at

The Mounts had 20 shots on goal and 11 corners.
Hafey had seven shots on goal and two corners.
Mihalick had two saves for Dallas, Hafey’s Orlande
had 13.
This week has the Dallas kickers scheduled with
Bishop O’Reilly, home, Tuesday; Lake-Lehman,
Wednesday, away; and Bishop Hoban, Thursday,
away.
Coach Ray Dennis’ Lake-Lehman Knights, who will
not be in the league until next season, defeated
the second quarter on Chris Scharff, who scored
unassisted 16:37 into the quarter and Mikael Hagman,
who scored unassisted 19:30 into the quarter.

Lady Knight field hockey girls have served notice
they intend to follow in the footsteps of their former
teammates, who graduated in June. They proved they
meant it by taking their first two league games last
week.
Coach Jean Lipski’s girls blanked Tunkhannock 2-0,
Wednesday, on their home field and earlier, on
Monday afternoon the Lady Knights rolled over GAR
7-0, in their opening game of the season.
Deanna Knorr opened the game for the Knights
against Tunkhannock by scoring a goal 11:30 into the
half on an assist by Sue DeGennarro. One minute

Lake Lehman junior Chris Land-
messer fumbled the Tiger kick and
Tunkhannock recovered on the
Lake-Lehman 37-yard line. After the

back Brian Mast’s number was
called and he plowed over Lehman’s
left defensive side for a four-yard
before the first half ended, Kelly Wandel scored with
Knorr picking up an assist.
A strong Lake-Lehman defense led by DeGennarro,
Noelle Kuznicki and Colleen Corbett held the Tigers to
only two shots on goal while the Lehman offense was
successful in collecting 38 shots on goal.
Lady Knight goalie Sue Slocum had two saves while
the Tigers goalies Strumski and Pensak had a
combined total of 19 saves. Lake-Lehman had 24
corners, the Tunkhannock girls only two.
In Monday’s contest with GAR, Kelly Wandel scored
three goals in the first 13 minutes of the game and
Slocum scored a fourth goal in the game when she
deflected a shot made by Noel Kuznicki 14:00 minutes
into the game. . :

Chargers got a second period goal
from Jeff Morris and held for a 1-0
victory over the Lancers. Morris
was an outstanding forward: player.
The Strikers used persistent
offense and a smothering defense to
beat the Roughnecks 4-0. Stuart
Grahm, Michael Vozniak, Kenny
Chapple and Eric Dieffenbacher
each scored for the Strikers. Ryan
Finn and Stuart Graham shared
duty in the goal and shut out the
Roughnecks. Colby and Gurtney
Gauntlett played terrific defense in
keeping the Roughnecks from
putting much pressure on their goal.
The Gauntletts have been consistent
on offense and defense of the team
all year.
The Cosmos beat the Soccers 3-2
with goals scored by Danny Moses
and Sean Callahan (2) for the
Cosmos, and Randdy Slaff and
Corey Cherup for the Soccers.
SCORES: Aztecs 3, Comets 1;
Stallions 5, Wings 0; Express 4,
Arrows 2; Chargers 1, Lancers 0;
U-12 action the Chargers, Stallions,
and Kicks remained undefeated.
The Stallions posted their victory
over the Wings. The Wings’ Eric
Stogoski tallied their only goal in
the first guarter. In the last three
quarters the Stallions were in
charge with Todd Paczewski scor-
ing three goals and David Fosko
adding two to finish out the scoring
at 5-1. The goalie, Scott Cox and
defensive player, Matt Samuel were
outstanding for the Stallions.
Jason Mattey led the Kicks passt
the Fury. In that game John Morris
scored one and Mattey scored two
to make it 3-0 at the half. The Fury
retaliated in the second half with
two quick goals by Billy Richardson
and Steven rosenthal. Mattey came

another goal in the third. Jason
Rogers added an insurance goal for
the Kicks to finish the game at 5-3.
In the Chargers 7-2 win over the
Lancers Matt Sleightholm had a big
day with three goals and one assist.
David Fisher had two goals and two
assists and Chris Boraski had one
goal and one assist. Jim Reynold
scored off a pass from Durelle Scott
to finish the Charger’s scoring.
Shawn Phillips and Dan Perato
posted one a piece for the Lancers.
Excelling on Charger’s defense for
the day were Chris Boraski, Jeremy
Williams and Leann Simon.
In other games the Aztics held on
to defeat the Comets 4-3 with all
four Aztecs goals scored in the first
helf. Eric Ursiak scored off a pass
from Stephanie Swinchick. Mike
Schrlau and Rich Sickler both
scored off passes from David
Podehl. Rich Wasilius scored on an
Comets, John Leonard and Andrea
Shone played a tough game.
The Express posted their fourth
straight victory, this time over the
arrows 7-2. Ned Palka was outstand-
ing for the Express with four goals.
Matt Bailey had two, and Dave
Holdredge posted one. Scoring for
the Arrows were Bob Casterline off
a pass from Amy Trynoski and
Mike Wagner off a pass from Cast-
erline.
In a great defensive game the
Stings held the Rowdies to one goal
with outstanding defense by Robbie
Kocher and Libby Davies. Scoring
for the STings were Kevin Loeffler
and Kenny Miroslaw with two goals
apiece and Pee Wee Giest and AMy
Nadzen with one goal each. Loeffler
and Giest also had an assist.

had a chance to score on a penalty
kick, but this failed when it bounced
