DENMON Staff Writer Sid and Judy Silvers, owners and proprietors of the White Horse Inn and Tavern in Dallas Shopping Center, pride themselves on their top quality, home prepared entrees, they serve daily at both lunch and dinner. They are particularly pleased with their fresh daily soups, many of them unusual and some creations of Judy’s. Diners who try any of these ‘gourmet’ type soups always come back for more. Judy and Sid have tried various recipes from all around the world and at the White Horse one can find such specialties as Pachero Soup, a Spanish style blend of fruit, meat and vegetables, ‘utterly delicious’’; Gazpacho, cold, Mexican soup; “fit for a King” French onion soup; chicken and walnut soup; peanut butter soup; and dozens more, each better than the last. The Silvers also serve a variety of chowders including, fish, clam or other seafood chowders. Their cream soups are like no others and try as one might, they’re impossible to duplicate. A luncheon special at the White Horse is Judy’s Vegetable Filo, at least 10 layers of tender filo dough buttered between each layer and filled with vegetables and cheese. Or we suggest the spinach and chicken filo when it is on the menu. It’s sensational. The White Horse is the home of the Gauchoberger, created by Judy. It contains ingredients only Judy knows and the sight of one is mouthwatering. Quiche (made to order) by Judy, Rueben sandwiches, corned beef or roast beef sandwiches-all of these are demand items at the White Horse. All foods are prepared on the premises and are fresh daily. The variety of soups are endless for Judy experiments ‘with all things but for the more timid diners, the White Horse has a traditional menu such as Steak Heroes, tossed salads, chef salad, tomato, lettuce and bacon sandwiches and the like. On their dinner menu, they offer surf & turf, prime rib (cut to order), New York strip steak, filet mignon, open face steak sandwich; and from the sea, Judy and Sid serve scallop stuffed shrimp, baked scallops, baked flounder or lobster tail. Especially delicious are their chicken scallops, shrimp, vegetables in garlic butter sauce, chicken cacciatore, or linguini with chicken in basil, red and green pepper sauce. If you like linguine with white clam sauce, you haven’t tasted it until you taste that Judy prepares. The White Horse opens for lunch at 11:30 and diners may order lunch from that time until the kitchen closes after the dinner hour. If someone in a party coming for dinner, would rather a sandwich or just a tossed salad, Sid and Judy will serve just that at the White Horse. The Silvers cut all their own steaks on the premises and will prepare any steak or prime rib exactly as the customer desires it. Judy and Sid are continuously trying new entrees on the dinner menu to please everyone's taste. It is Sid’s hope that sometime in the future he might be able to expand and add a large diningroom to his inn and tavern. Family-owned, the White Horse food is prepared by Judy and Sid with Sid doing most of the cooking on weekdays and Judy cooking on the weekends. Sid does all of the ordering for both the kitchen and the bar. ‘Diners may order the cocktail of their preference-just ask the waitress. If it is something unusual, just tell her what the ingredients go into it and it will be made to your liking. From martini to manhattan to Marguerita, daquiri or sombrero-name it, they will mix it. The White Horse serves dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m., with the exception of Sunday. Although the bar opens at 11 a.m., dinner is served from 4 to 9:30 p.m. All dinners include soup or salad, side dish, bread basket and entree.
