To honor Family Service Associa-
tion of Wyoming Valley at its 90th
Annual Meeting, which highlights
the “Year of the Family’ in Wyo-
ming Valley, a distinguished former
ressident will return to be the prin-
cipal speaker. The Luncheon Meet-
ing will be held on Thursday, Noon,
September 5, at the Sheraton-Cross-
gates Hotel, Wilkes-Barre.
Alfred Eisenpreis - with an out-
standing background in retailing,
government and newspapers - is a
futurist, whose topic will forecast
the future state of the family. In
this age of changing lifestyles and
values, Mr. Eisenpreis will analyze
past, current and future social
trends, and their effects on family
life.
“Born in Germany, Eisenpreis
came to Wyoming Valley at an
early age, and received his educa-
tion here, graduating from Wilkes
College. His first retailing experi-
ence was with Pomeroy’s, Wilkes-
Barre. From 1943-1973, he was a
Senior Management Executive of
Allied Stores Corp., one of the larg-
est U.S. department store compa-
nies.
In 1974, Eisenpreis was appointed
Commissioner-Administrator for
- Economic Development for the City
of New York. He was also responsi-
ble for the Port of New York, and
directed the famous ‘‘Operation
Sail” program, New York’s Bi-cen-
tennial Salute.
He has served as consultant to the
Executive Office of the President of
the U.S. on Economic Stabilization
under Presidents Johnson, Nixon
and Ford.

Eisenpreis joined the ‘Newspaper
Advertising Bureau of Vice Presi-

post, which he currently holds, he is
responsible for the coordination of
newspapers’ services to the retail
industry. Mr. Eisenpreis also
administers the regional programs
in the Bureau’s Los Angeles, Chi-
cago and Atlanta offices.
Founded in 1895, Family Service,
a United Way Agency, offers profes-
sional counselling to individuals and
families at its headquarters, 73 W.
Union Street, Wilkes-Barre, and at
its branches in the area. It also
administers Help Line, a 24-hour
crisis and information phone serv-
ice.

The Harveys Lake Protective Association announces its
third annual social, ‘‘Summer Evening of Dining and
Dancing'’, honoring the club's Past Presidents. The event
wil Ibe held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at ‘‘The Barn'’, Newberry
Estates, beginning at 7 p.m. with cocktail hour and assorted
hors d'oeuvres. A full course dinner featuring prime rib of
beef or stuffed flounder with crabmeat will continue from 8
to 9. Dancing and open bar from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. will follow
featuring music by ‘Jackie Dee'’. Tickets are priced at $25.
per person and are available from committee members.
Deadline for reservations is Aug. 17. Members and their
guests are invited to attend. The club’s annual meeting will
take place at 6:30 before the social begins. Pictured above

Wednesday, Aug. 21, to pre-register
their exhibits. The method of pre-
registering is ‘as set forth in the
Pennsylvania State Fair guidelines.

new method and listing the various
classes and awards, can be obtained

All exhibits, except for perisha-
bles, will be accepted on Tuesday,
Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Perishables will be accepted only on
Wednesday, Sept. 4, between 4 and 9
p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 5, from 9
to 11 a.m. The fair is scheduled for
September 4 to 8, at the fairgrounds
located on Rte. 118, Dallas-Lehman.
The Luzerne County Fair Hobby
Arts and Crafts is under the direc-
tion of Joseph Suprum, a resident of
Alden. All 4-H exhibits are under
the direction of Donna Skog, with
the Penn State Univ. Cooperative
Extension Service.
