® Man injured KINGSTON TOWNSHIP Joan Pisanechi, 113 Williams St., Shavertown was taken to Nesbitt Memorial Hospital after she was injured in an accident at the inter- section of Carverton Road and Route 309 on May 29. According to police reports, Constance Jones, 340 Harris Hill Road, Shavertown, was stopped for a red signal on Carver- ton Road. When the light turned green, she started through the inter- section and was struck by Ms. Pisanechi who had gone through the red signal for north and south bound traffic on route 309. DALLAS TOWNSHIP A 1975 Volkswagon had to be towed to Wesley’s garage on June 1 after the driver of the vehicle, Scott McMillan of West Pittston, tried to avoid hitting a deer and landed in a pond in the rear of Newberry Estates. -0- Darrin Ide, Countrycrest Trailer Court, Hunlocks Creek, was driving a 1981 Dodge van on Harris St., Dallas Township, when he failed to negotiate a curve, went off the south-bound berm, and struck three mailboxes before coming to rest. DALLAS BOROUGH Five people were injured in an accident on route 309 by the Shaver- town IGA on June 2. Lisa Dom- browski, 21, Bennett Street, Old Forge, was taken to General Hospi- tal after she pulled out of the IGA parking lot in front of a vehicle driven by Ann Neyhard, East Main Street, Plymouth, who was north- bound on 309. Ms. Neyhard and her children who were passengers in the car were treated and released. Bor- ough officer James Tupper investi- gated. A perliminary hearing for Harry Brill, a Dallas man arrested for open lewdness when he allegedly exposed himself in the Fernbrook area, has been scheduled for June 12 at 11:00 before District Magis- trate Earl Gregory. -0- Donald Derhammer and John Ross will face a hearing for the second time before Magistrate Earl Gregory on charges of burglary that Gregory had previously dismissed. Kingston Township police rear- rested the two Dallas men, and a hearing that had been scheduled for May 31 has been continued until June 7 at 1:00. { -0- Three different cases of DUI are being heard before Magistrate Gregory today. They include charges against Nichols, Nodof and Southland. . -0- A hearing for Robert Kreidler, a 37 year old Harveys Lake man who has been charged with raping a 13 year old girl in March has been continued until today at 10 a.m. Magistrate Leonard Harvey will hear the case. Kreidler faces charges of indecent assault, rape, statutory rape and corrupting the morals of minors. SUBURBAN State Corrections Commissioner Glen R. Jeffes today announced the appointment of Joseph M. Ryan of Dallas, Luzerne County, as superin- tendent of the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Dallas. Ryan is a 26-year veteran of the Dallas facility’s staff. Jeffes also announced that two other long-term employes of SCI Dallas have been promoted in con- juction with Superintendent Ryan’s appointment: John R. Stepanik, 51, of Dallas, a 26-year veteran; named deputy superintendent for operations. Stanley A. Gabriel, 52, of Jackson Township, also a 26-year veteran; named major of the guard. Ryan, who is 56, has served as acting superintendent since January 1983 when Commissioner Jéffes, who was then superintendent at Dallas, was named superintendent at SCI Graterford in Montgomery County. Jeffes was subsequently named acting commissioner of the Bureau of Corrections and, in April of this year, was confirmed by the state Senate as the first commis- Blaze battled sioner of the newly created Depart- ment of Corrections. Ryan began his career as a cor- rectins officer at SCI Graterford in 1959, but was transferred later that year to the newly constructed Dallas institution, which received its first inmate in January, 1960. He moved up through the ranks at Dallas during the next 13 years and was named major of the guard in 1972. Four years later, he became deputy superintendent for opera- tions, holding that post until becom- ing acting superintendent. As deputy superintendent for operations, Stepanik is responsible for overseeing the corrections offi- cer force at Dallas as well as other ‘operations’ functions, such as food services, maintenance and trades activities and Correctional Indus- tries. Suspicious clothing found strewn about on Reservoir Road in Dallas has police in the Borough conduct- ing a thorough investigation. Reportedly, a Hunlocks Creek resi- dent traveling along the road dis- covered various articles of a woman’s clothing lying in her path. She reported her findings to Chief Ed Lyons.
