More than 20 Wyoming Seminary students received various prizes and awards for their work in school and extra curricular activities at the school’s annual ‘‘Awards Day’’ assembly. Receiving two awards was Megan Hedden, of Dallas, who won The V. Helen Anderson Art Award, and The Theodore S. Abbot Language Cup. Academic awards in various subject areas at the school were also given to Anthony Stallone, Dalls, The Rensselaer Mathematics and Science Award and Terrell Smith, Dallas, The Adelade Jeffers Prize. Lisa Kozenak, Luzerne, received the Helen L. Brown Award for academics and extracurricular activities. Peter Bove, Dallas, received the Mary M. Tribler Memorial Award for improvement in Mathematics. Rachell Schall THE MAY CROWNING CERE- MONY was held in Gate of Heaven school recently. The second-grade students who received their First Holy Communion recently formed the procession and, one of their members, Lori Scott, placed the crown of flowers on the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Scott Wasik was crownbearer. -0- AN END OF THE YEAR roller- skating party was held on Sunday at Bonomo’s for all the students at Gate of Heaven School. Basketball players and cheerleaders had free admission. It was a happy event for the whole school. Donna Greger -0- LAST TUESDAY, the eighth grade traveled to Inner Harbor, Baltimore, for their class trip. The students toured the National Aquar- ium where they saw a wide variety of sea animals and visited the Rain Forest with its many brilliantly colored birds. They took paddleboat rides, toured a 14th century boat and shopped aound the Harbor for souvenirs. Later, they visited Fort McHenry where they were shown the flag that flew over the fort on the night of September 13-14, 1814, together with the crosspiece that supported it. They toured the fort with its weapons and artillery and Muddy students? Two honored Robert and Shirley Fortinsky were honored at ‘the com- mencement ceremonies of Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Dr. James Ryan, campus executive officer, right, presented them with the Mount Nittany Society Medallion in recogni- tion of their generous support of The Pennsylvania State University. In the entire Penn State system, there are only about 200 members of the Mount Nittany Society which is the University’s most distinguished group of alumni and friends who provide outstanding gift support. Mr. Fortinsky, president and founder of Fortune Fabrics, graduated from Penn State in 1947 with a degree in chemical engineering. Returns to area Ms. Tamyra Boudreaux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Bour- dreaux, Dalllas, and her son, Justin, have returned to the Back Mountain from Boiling Springs, N.C. Ms. Boudreaux was graduated Magna- Cum Laude, May 11, from Gardner-Webb College, with a B.S. in business management with an emphasis in marketing. She is a 1981 graduate of Dallas Senior High School. Brands i in Wilkes-Barre. DAVE ANDERSON is the son of Bruce and Cathy Anderson of Har- veys Lake. He enjoys camping, and cars.
