EE famous for By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent Entering Hottle’s Restaurant is like walking into an exhibit of sports art. You glance at the gleaming bar with mirrored back, but then your eyes ‘focus on the large paintings displayed on the opposite wall — paintings of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Pocono Downs, the Lakers — all originals. On the diningroom wall, just inside the doorway are more of the paint- ings, all originals. In each of the paintings there are ¥ portraits of one or more champions on the teams, and in the Pocono known local driver. Most of the paintings are autographed by the athletes — athletes, who have dined at Hottle’s when they have been in town for various sports programs. There is little doubt that someone at Hottle’s is or was a sports enthusiast. That someone was the former owner, Bob Jones, who sold his business to Jerry Passikoff. Passikoff, who was chef and man- ager at Hottle’s for the past 12 years, is familiar with many of the athletes who have dined in the restaurant. He points with pride to an excellent painting of Pete Rose, so like the former Phillie that one expects him to speak to you. The paintings were done by two different artists, the later ones by a student at Wilkes named Rich. Pas- sikoff plans to keep the painting display in the bar area, but in the near future he hopes to remodel the diningroom and will move the two or three in that area to the bar. He recently renovated the bar using light paneling and bright red ‘upholstery on the bar stools and booths. He is doing away with the carousel emblem engraved in the center back glass back bar and in its place is adding engraved with the specialty of the house — “Broiled Lobster’. Since assuming ownership, Passi- koff has continued serving that, the specialty of Hottle’s for many years, and all other seafood, having added many gourmet surprises of his own, from lobster to fresh trout or ocean fish. Seafood lovers should not pass up Jerry’s Seafood Sampler, an entree of shrimp, scallops and crabmeat in an original scampi sauce. The menu also includes a variety of appetiz- ers, the favorite of most of his customers mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat, flavored with garlic sauce. Snapper soup and we mean “snapper’’, fresh turtle soup fla- vored with sherry is unique but ‘delicious. “Dessert deluxe” is Jerry’s home- made cheesecake. Although rich, the cake is a smooth mixture of ricotta cheese and ice cream fla- vored with vanilla and lemon, so light it melts in your mouth. For those who prefer something else, there are other suggestions on the menu. Steaks, pork chops, veal chops, lamb chops, and fresh, done just right Prime Rib, the latter served on Friday and Saturday nights or on Sunday. There are more than 30 items from which to choose on the menu. Jerry and his wife combine their talent and effort in running the restaurant and they have a staff of 30 employees to assist them in making dining a pleasure at Hottles. Their bar is supervised by veteran John Bowanko, who is an artist in mixing drinks. Customers as far away as Califor- nia, Boston, Florida and other parts of the nation return to Hottles where they know they can always find fresh food served in just the same way as before. It is a meeting place for many doctors and, after local games and other sporting events, athletes and fans gather at Hottle’s where they find the same great food prepared by the same great chef. Hottle’s, under the ownership of Jerry Passikoff, is where good food, good drinks, good friends come together as one for a truly fine dining experience. Going out for dinner? Reserve a table at Hottle’s! Jedidia (Continued from page 20) homemade soups. Williams) hung about the room.
