The Dallas High School girls’ soft-
ball team clinched a playoff spot in
Division AAA of the Wyoming
Valley Conference last Monday
when they rolled over Wyoming
Area 10-1. Coach Jay Pope’s Lady
Mounts then went on to defeat the
Valley West Spartans, 5-2, and Wyo-
ming Seminary, 6-4. The three wins
guaranteed the team second spot in
the league playoffs with a game
against Nanticoke scheduled for
May 20.
In Saturday’s contest with Wyo-
ming Seminary, Lisa Sharkness
hurled the first five innings, but was
relieved by pitcher Tracey Cave for
the final two innings. Cave was
credited with the win for the Moun-
taineers.
Joyce Tinner drove out the only
two extra base hits for Dallas, a
double and a triple. The freshman
drove out the triple in the seventh
inning, driving in two runs that
clinched the win for the Mountai-
neers, who finished second in league
play with a 15-3 record.
Senior Jill Radzinski had the lone
hit for the Mountaineers in Wednes-
day’s game with Wyoming Valley
West, but it was enough for the
Dallas girls win over the Spartan.
Radzinski’s double combined with
11 walks and four Spartan errors
were enough for the Lady Mounts to
score one run in the first, second
and sixth innings and two in the
fourth. ;
Tracey Cave picked up the win for
the Mounts, giving up only three
hits and striking out three. She had
game with no walks.
Cooper, losing pitcher for the
Spartans, fanned three but walked
eight. The relief hurler, Allen,
fanned two and walked three.
The win was Cave’s 11th of the
league season.
ROMP OVER WA
The Lady Mounts rebounded from
their loss to Crestwood and on
Monday, May 13, traveled to Wyo-
ming Area where they romped over
the Warriors 10-1.
Behind good pitching by Lisa
Sharkness and Tammy Daveski’s
hitting, the Lady Mounts combined
a total of seven hits with 11 walks
and several Warrior errors to pile
up 10 runs, five of them crossing the
plate in the fifth inning.
Daveski hit a single and a double

while Sharkness gave up five hits
and walked only five.
Missy Ripa went two-for-four at
the plate for the Warriors and Cathy
Grindall drove out a double. Simba
Harris was credited with the loss,
giving up five walks. Relief hurler
Aire issued six walks before the
Dallas girls cooled off by the War-
riors.
LEHMAN TIED
Lake-Lehman girls are tied with
Wyoming Seminary for top place in
Division AA by virtue of the Blue
Knights’ loss to Dallas on Saturday
afternoon. They will meet in a
playoff for the league title before
going into the playoffs.
In a game marked by seven
homeruns, Hazleton outdid the Lady
Knights at the plate in a slugging
contest to win, 16-13.
Hazleton jumped out to a three-
run lead in the first inning and four
more in the second to go in front 7-0.
C. McGarry’s three-run homer and
S. Polinsky’s three-run triple
accounted for the big lead.
The Knights came back in the
third and fourth to cut the lead to 7-
4 when Sandy Dicton drove out a
two-run homer and Lori Pantle hit
an RBI single combined with Chris
Wasculis’ sacrifice fly to the out-
field.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hazle-
ton went in front 11-4 as they scored
four runs, one of them on A.
DeLuca’s homerun.
The Knights drew closer in the
fifth on an RBI double by Cindy
Slocum and a three-run homer
belted out by Beth Finn, to put the
score at 11-8.
The Mountaineers were not to be
outdone and in their half of the fifth
took a 14-8 lead on'an RBI single by
C. Walton, a fielder’s choice and an
error. They extended their lead in
the bottom of the sixth on a triple
by J. Hydo and a double by D.
Ratchko.
In the top of the sixth, Kelly
Wandel cut the Mountaineers lead
and in the top of the seventh with
one out, Wascalus knocked out a
grand slam to make the score 16-13.
Hazleton Coach N. Campagna
pulled his pitcher Lisa Imbriaco for
Tracey Walton, who retired the next
two Knights in order.
FINN IN CONTROL
In the game with GAR, Lake-
Lehman girls moved into first place
in the division playoffs by shutting
out the Grenadiers 10-0 in five
innings.
Hurler Beth Finn was in complete
control as she fanned eight, walked
only two and gave up only two hits
in gaining the win.
The Knights took an early 3-0 lead
in the first inning on three errors by
the Grenadiers, then scored a fourth
run in the second inning on singles
by Sandy Dicton, Sue Slocum, Kelly
Wandel and Cindy Slocum. They
scored five more in the fourth
inning on three errors by the Grena-
diers, Cindy Slocum’s two-run single
and a sacrifice fly by Chris Wascu-
lus.
the plate and scored three runs,
started the fifth inning with a
single. She went to third on an error
and scored the 10th and final run of
the game when Sue Slocum drove
out a sacrifice fly.
Wandel and C. Slocum were two-
for-three at the plate.
In taking the win, Finn gave up
one hit, a short single by Grenadier
Lee Cordisco in the fifth inning.
Kim Skrepenak was the losing
hurler for GAR allowing seven hits,
fanning one and walking two. It was
errors that hurt the Grenadiers
throughout the game.
There is a strong possibility the
teams may meet in the playoffs.
In the Back Mountain Little
League Farm System this past
weekend, the Orioles and the Giants
played a rather excited game with
plenty of hits being banged out by
both teams.
"WE MAKE YOUR CAR

Runs were scored in the game by
