Junior high wrestlers The Lake-Lehman Junior-Senior High School Wres- tling teams were honored at the annual end of season banquet on April 21st at the Kozy K Lounge. The event was attended by some 195 wrestlers, parents and supporters which included Rick and Rocky Bonomo returning to their Alma Mater as guest speakers. Both Rick and Rocky stressed the importance of having goals set and working towards those goals, also having faith in the Lord. The Junior High wrestlers were awarded hooded sweat shirts as mementos of having won the co-championship of the league. Special awards were presented to: Tom Duffy, Most Aggressive; Charles Allen, Most Consistent; Chris Frederick, Most Dedicated; Rick Parry, Most Improved; Matt Bregman, Most Improved Under- classman; Tim Bernick Surprise of the Year; Scott Bregman, Most Takedowns; Scott Shafer, was named Ourstanding Junior High Wrestler. He finished the regular season 19-0, having won the PIAA District II Junior High Heavyweight Crown, hazleton Junior High Invitational Tournament, The prestigious Frank Walp Tournament and the Crestwood Tournament. The senior high wrestlers were awarded jackets by the Lake-Lehman Wrestling Mother Association. They graduating seniors: Tom Adams, Norm Clancy, Tim Kipling, Mike Maceiko, Duane Miller and Chris Van Gorder were presented their lettermen sweaters. Special awards were presented to Chris Van Gorder, Most Falls; Jeff Austin, Most Takedowns; Dave Guzinksi, Joe Smith and Ed Stratford, Most Improved Outstanding JV Wrestler was Ty Shaw. The Outstanding Varsity Wrestler went to Norm Clancy who finished the season 6th at States, first at District and Regionals PIAA Championships, 1st at Troy and Selinsgrove Tournaments, 1st runner up for the Hooper Award and who was also named to the Wyoming Valley Conference All Star team. A memorial trophy was presented to the School by the Lake-Lehman Athletic Club in honor of the late Tracy Slocum who during his years as a Lake-Lehman wrestler compiled an impressive 131 career wins ( which at one time was a State Record and is still a record in the Wyoming Valley. Each year the senior who has compiled the most career wins as a Lake-Lehman wrestler will have his name added to the plaque which hangs in the lobby of the Senior High School. The first recipient of this award was Norm Clancy who won 9 bouts as a Sophomore: 26 as a junior and 29 as a senior for a total of 64. : By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent Dallas Mountaineers cindermen lost 111-39 to a strong Pittston squad but defeated Bishop Hoban 84-65, last Thursday over the Mounts track. The Patriots took firsts in 13 of 18 events while Mark Wright took first in the two mile run in 10:37 and Matt Mihal took a first in the distance with 130-1. Taking seconds were the Dallas two mile relay team, 400-relay team, S. Brace, 300 hurdles, Ron Ostrowski, 200m dahs, Wright, high jump, Walter Gauthier, long jump. Third place finishers for the Mounts were Brace, 110 hurdles; Wright, mile run, Brace, long jump and Hislop, javelin. ASTON LEADS On Wednesday, the Dallas girls led by Amy Aston surprised the Patriots by upsetting them 73-68. They took Bishop Hoban 102-39 in the tri-meet. Aston was a triple winner for the Lady Mounts taking the 1600m and the 3200m runs and also running a leg of the first place 3200 meter relay team. Brenda Harvey won the 100m hurdles in 17.8 and the long jump with 14-8. Linda King took the 400m run in 66.2 and ran a leg of the winning 3200m relay race. BOYS WIN TWO On Tuesday, April 23, the boys track team took wins over Crest- wood and Lake-Lehman. Ron Ostrowski took three firsts to lead the Mountaineers in defeating Crestwood 105-45 and Lake-Lehman 100%2-49%%5. Ostrowski came in first in the 100m dash, 12.2, and ran a leg of the winning 400m relay with Mike Far- rell, Morgan and Farrell in 48.8 and the 1600m relay with Farrell, Bob ADDITIONS SIDING DECKING Oliver and Lipo in 3:54.9. Steve Brace won the 100m and 300m hurdles in 16.5 and 42.2 and Mike Farrell won the 400m and 1600m relay. Other first place winners were Mark Wright 3200m run 11:10; shot put, Mark Liva 48-8%2; and javelin, Hislop, 169-11. Second, third, fourth and fifth place winners for the Mountaineers were Supey, 110m hurdles; Morgan 100m dash; Wright, Oliver, 1600m run; Gritman, Lipo, 400m dash; Supey, 300m hurdles; " Oliver, Lasecki, 800m run; Gritman, 3200m run; Kern, pole vault; Wright, high jump; Koprowski, triple jump; Mihal, shot put; Mihal, Liva, discus; and Liva, javelin. KNIGHTS SPLIT Lake-Lehman cindermen man- aged to split by taking Crestwood 81-69. Placing first for the Kights was Dave Janiczek who took the 800 m and 1600m runs and was a member of the Knights winning 3200m relay team; Shaw, 400m dash and Van Gorder, discus. The Comettes took Lake-Lehman 136-5 and Dallas, 89-52. The only girls placing for the Knights were Boyle, inthe 100m dash and the 200m dash, and Judge in the 800m run. Winning for the Lady Mounts were Amy Aston, 1600m run; Linda King, 400m run; and Harvey, the long jump. Dallas also won the 3200 m, relay and 1600m relay.
