In her free time Jackie enjoys listening to music and going to the movies. The Grotto was the place where over 60 students ate pizza to their heart’s content. At this time, the coaches were presented with ‘‘tokens’” of appre- ciation. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. This event culminated this year’s sports season and all look forward to a good 1985-1986. -0- THE EIGHTH GRADE SKATING PARTY was held Sunday, April 14 at Bonomo’s. It was a great success and a good time was had by all. Proceeds from this project go toward the eighth grade trip to Inner Harbor, Baltimore. -0- THE SECOND GRADE STU- DENTS are readying for First Holy Communion and are getting very excited about it. During the masses, Saturday and Sunday, Father spoke about the posibility of parishioners sponsoring a child whose name is picked from the bulletin board in the vestibule of the church. The purpose of this is for each communi- cant to be prayed for and to be remembered in a Special way, either by a card or by a phone call by the sponsor who picked the child’s name. It was a very success- ful project last year and hopefully we will remember to pray for these children. -0- THE ANNUAL SCIENCE FAIR was held in the gym on Wednesday, April 10. This year, rather than awarding prizes, the students opted to have the grade from the project added to their last-quarter grade mark in science. Each student dem- onstrated his project by his creativ- ity and talent and showed some very fine demonstrations. A lot of interest was shown at Mike Farris’ table where he disected a cow’s eye. He did a fine job, as did so many other students. Twenty-three posters were chosen from among the eight grades. The students did a great piece of work and showed how much they learned from the splendid presentations by the Victims Resource Center group who spoke to all grades early in January. -0- MR. ABE SIMON will conduct a basketball clinic for the 5, 6, 7 and 8 grade boys on April 20 and April 27. Schedules have already been dis- tributed to the interested students. The goal of this clinic is to promote better team work and good skills at ball handling. 0% ON APRIL 19 the Robin Hood Players presetned ‘From Kite to Kitty Hawk’ a very absorbing story of the two talented Wright brothers whose perseverence led from one accomplishment to another until their life’s dream was realized. The Robin Hood Players from Phoenix, Arizona, provide the highest stan- dard of professional theatre, with the purpose of furthering the educa- tional as well as the creative advancement of the young people. TEACHER OF THE WEEK: Mrs. Teresa Rutkoski is the eighth grade homeroom teacher who lives in High Point Acres, Dallas. She is originally from Plymouth. Mrs. Rut- koski studied at Bloomsburg Uni- versity with a major in English, where she received her B.S. degree. She had been a substitute teacher at The Gate for 10 years before coming on board as a full time teacher three years ago. The students are very important to Mrs. Rutkoski as, according to her, they make each day a different challenge and expe- rience. This is a yearly event to familiarize the'-students with their facility, as the majority of eighth grade students do attend O’Reilly High School.
