    Banquet held
* The 60th Anniversary Banquet of Dallas Chap-
ter, No. 396, Order of the Eastern Star, was held
recently at the Sheraton-Crossgates, Wilkes-
Barre.
' Welcome was given by Mrs. Martha Brad-
bury, Associate matron, followed by the Pledge
of Allegiance. The invocation was given by Mrs.
Rita Brody, Chaplain. y
Honored guests were Ms. Donna Post, Worthy
Matron; Mr. Dennis Bonning, Worthy Patron;
Mrs. Frances Meeker, Past Matron and Mrs.
Bette R. Truscott, Past Matron, appointed

and Mrs. John Bunney
Post, Mr. and Mrs. D
William Gensel.
Grand Chapter Committee Members. Also rec-
ognized were 12 50-year members, four of whom
were present. Those present were Edna John-
son, Past Matron; Mildred Bronson, Past
Matron; Helen Hawkins; and Helen Hontz, Past
Matron.
Special welcome was extended to Worthy
Grand Matron, Mrs. Elizabeth Hammell;
Worthy Grand Patron, Mr. C. William Gensel;
and the Grand Family.
Toastmistress was Mrs. Beverly Bunney, Past
Matron. Remarks were given by Ms. Donna
, Mrs. Elizabeth Hammell, Miss Donna
ennis Bonning, and Mr. and Mrs. C.
Post, Worthy Matron; mr. Dennis Bonning,
Worth Patron; Mrs. Elizabeth Hammell, Worthy

Deputy Grand Matron.
Appointed Grand Chapter Committee mem-
bers, Worthy Matrons and Worth Patrons were
also welcomed.

Tuesdays
The New Voice Club, part of the
Service and Rehabilitation program
of the American Cancer Society,
was formed in 1969 to offer speech
training and moral support to those
who ‘have lost their voice due to
cancer. The group meets on the first
Tuesday of the month at the V.A.
Hospital. A business meeting is
followed by an educational program
and speech therapy which includes
learning a new art of breathing.
Ann Zaborney, speech pathologist,
is elub advisor.
TOUCH, Today Our Understand-
ing Of Cancer is Hope, is another
service program sponsored by the
A.C.S. The TOUCH group reaches
out to cancer patients and their
is to help patients cope with the
phychosocial and emotional prob-
lems of the disease. Doris McKane,
Dallas, is chairman of this group.
These programs are offered free
of charge. Funding is through the
annual Crusade which will be held
April 19-28.

IF YOU LOVE DIXIE LAND
JAZZ, keep May 9 in mind. Trucks-
ville United Methodist Church will
present Bobby Baird and His Dixie
Land Jazz Band in concert at the
Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for
the Performing Arts, Wilkes Col-
lege. This concert will benefit the
recent Asbestos Removal Project.
Committee members include Bar-
bara Dingle, Barbara Glowach,
June Bennett, Sheldon Bennett,
Helen Gaylord, Janet Phillips and
Walter Phillips. Rev. Thomas
Clemow is church pastor.
1 SAW A SHORT PIECE in a local
paper this week concerning a nurs-
ing robot developed by a Japanese
inventor. The robot is programmed
to respond to human voice com-
mands. This newest member of the
nursing profession may be efficient,
but that warmth and caring asso-
ciated with nursing would be
absent. How sad! Technology is
great but please let’s not replace
people with machines.

CLUB recently honored two Lake-
Lehman High School ‘Students of
the Year.” Receiving the awards
were Sandra Dicton, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James Dicton and
Michael Annetta Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Michael Annetta, Sr. Dr. M.
David Preston, Superintendent of
Lake-Lehman School District and a
member of the Lake Silkworth
Lions Club introduced the students
and their parents to club members.

nors of Division 15 of the Pennsyl-
vania District of Kiwanis Interna-
tional held recently at Fox Hill
