Workshop held
United Way staff went “‘In Search of Excellence’’ to Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Fifteen members
of the executive staff of the United Way of Wyoming Valley participated in the two-day workshop
based on the management best seller, ‘In Search of Excellence.’’ The workshop was directed
by Michael Sawczuk of Penn State’s Management Development Services, and coordinated by
James F. Campbell, director of continuing education at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. From left,
seated, are Martina Martin, Midge Donnelly, Barbara Goleach, Barry Simons, Sherry Goldwein

Program held
The Luzerne Intermediate Unit held its preliminary screening for the Pennsylvania Governor's
School for the Arts at the Intermediate Unit building, 368 Tioga Avenue, Kingston. The
conducted its annual Health Services Information. Day on the main campus in Nanticoke.
Representatives from local hospitals and other health care facilities were available to speak with
interested students on careers in the health field and possible job openings. Shown during a

According to Virgil Chambers,
Chief of the Commission’s Boating
Safety Education Section, there dre

in Pennsylvanja by canoe and
“Paddle Pennsylvania” will help
you choose the right waterway. The
booklet also contains guidelines for
planning a float trip, a section on
canoe safety and a 9’ x 15” pull-out
canoe map showing canoe trips
designed for novice paddlers, the
intermediate canoeist and the expe-
rienced whitewater enthusiast.

A live videoconference on robotics
was held at Penn State Wilkes-
Barre in Lehman. The five-hour
program, co-sponsored by the Insti-
tute of Electrical and Electronic
Engineers and Penn State, exam-
ined the state of the art of robotics
and future trends as well as such
practical matters as methods for
achieving accurate robot arm con-
trol.
Participating were: Jonathan
Rogers, telecommunications and
electrical engineering student at the
Lehman campus; Sharon War, pro-
gram coordiantor; and Joseph Per-
kowski, engineering professor and
robotics instructor; Lenn Minkiew-
icz, electrical engineering student.
The tele-conference was attended by
representatives of industries
intersted in expanding use of robots. |
