By LEE L. RICHARDS Staff Correspondent Saturday is the final football game for Dallas and Lake-Lehman. It’s the battle for the bragging rights in the Back Mountain. For many players on each team it will be their final football game. Over the last week or so I've talked at length with various coaches and will try to give you a scouting report on both teams. I’ve also discussed strategy with the two coaches involved, Ron Rybak and Mark Kirk. After analyzing both teams’ strengths and weaknesses, I’ve tried to arrive at sort of a game plan for both and what key factors it will take for victory. First and foremost, both coaches have to get their respective teams to regroup and put the nightmarish season behind them and get to the business at hand. On paper, Lake-Lehman would rate as a slight favorite, but Dallas has the ability to triumph. Dallas would appear to have a slight edge in quickness, but won’t be able to take on the Knights toe- to-toe or they’ll get outmuscled which was the case most of the season. According to various coaches I've lked with, both teams have capa- ~s¢ kicking games. Dallas’ punter Gerald Mihalick and Lake- Lehman’s Chris VanGorder are keys. Since ‘both teams lack big-play striking ability why not rely on your kickers early and attempt to pin the other team deep and count on your defense to force a turnover? Mountaineers have some rugged youngsters in Phil Brown, Mat Mihal, Tom Trosko, Ritchie Long and Gary Vincelli. Coach Chuck Suppon is the defen- sive coordinator. He’ revised his stop troops and has been going with a more basic wide tackle six with little blitzing. The Mountaineers are reading and reacting more. When a team has an edge in the line of scrimmage why not back your down linemen off the ball more? This tactic would make Lake-Lehman’s ability to come off the ball and put a good block and sustain a mite more difficult. Dallas could then utilize its quicker people with a slants and stunts. Lake-Lehman’s chief threat is VanGorder running between the tac- kles and occasionally taking a quick pitch. He must be stopped before he gets rolling. QB T. Willey Cadwa- (See YOU, page 15) Other (Continued from page 12) a good receiver in a young fellow Ramirez. But, according to Kopacz, both teams will be fired up for the game with each wanting to end the season with a win and in a traditional game like the Old Shoe contest, throw the records out the window. He also said he’d have to go with Lake- Lehman in a squeaker. What do Dalls Coach Ron Rybak and Lake-Lehman Coach Mark Kirk say? Coach Rybak said his boys are going to go out and play basic defense. The Knights have more veterans than Dallas but his kids are going to go out and give their all, said Rybak. Coach Kirk said his kids are up for the game, that if they beat Dallas it means more than the shoe; it means a 4-3 season which could be described as a winning season and would be a great way to end the year. This Saturday, Nov. 17, after 48 minutes of playhing time at the Lake-Lehman stadium, the score- board will answer the question “Who won the Old Shoe?”’ ro THE DALLAS POST. WEDNESDAY. NOVEMBER 14. 1984 13 DALLAS COACH RON RYBAK “We’re going into the game with a different approach. It’s like a new season and the importance of the game will have our players fired up. Lake-Lehman is a good football team and Coach Kirk has an aggressive squad. We’ll have to put together out best effort to win.” a “Keep The Shoe’’ TEX WILSON Good Luck Mountaineers From The DALLAS STAFF Good Luck JOHN GEORGE Dallas School Director AL PISANESCHI Carverton Good Luck and Best Wishes MR. & MRS.
