    ARMY NATIONAL GUARD
SPEC. 4 JAMES M. SPASER, a 1976
4 graduate of Dallas Senior High
School, has completed the tactical
microwave systems repairer course
at the U.S. Army Signal Schools,
Fort Gordon, Ga.
The course provides instructions
for soldiers to install and operate
microwave radios and multiplexing
equipment.
During the 36 weeks of training,
soldiers also received training in the
installation and operation of inter-
connection of components and
power units, tuning receivers, and
transmitters, maintenance of effi-
ciency of circuilts, and safety proce-
dures.

SCOTT E. SAXTON, son of Mrs.
Ruth Donahue of Wilkes-Barre,
enlisted in the United States Air
Force’s Delayed Enlistment Pro-
gram according to MSgt. Bill
Shaver, Air Force recruiter for
Wilkes-Barre.
Saxton, a 1982 graduate of Dallas
Senior High School, is scheduled for
enlistment in the Regular Air Force
on April 18, 1985. Upon graduation
from the Air Force’s six week basic
training course, he is scheduled to
receive technical training in the
Electronic Aptitude Area.
He will be earning credits toward
an associate degree in applied sci-
ences through the Community Col-
lege of the Air Force while attend-
ing basic and other Air Force
technical training schools.

MISS JENNIFER M. KERN has
ecently received a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Biology from Temple
University, Philadelphia. She is a
graduate of Dallas High School,
Class of 1980. She is presently a first
year medical student at the Penn-
sylvania College of Podiatric Medi-
cine, Philadelphia, PA. Her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Kern, and
brother, Tim, of West Overbrook
Avenue, Dallas, attended the grad-
uation ceremonies held at Tomlin-
son theatre, Temple University
Campus.
Jennifer is the granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John P. Elenchik,
Dallas, and of Mrs. Marion A. Kern,

NAVY SEAMAN DOUGLAS W.
OSBORNE, son of Theron W. and
Shirley D. Osborne of Route 4,
Dallas, has completed recruit train-
ing at the Naval Training center,
San Diego.
During the eight-week training
cycle, trainees studied general mili-
tary subjects designed to prepare
them for further academic and on-
the-job training in one of the Navy’s
85 basic occupational fields.
Included in their studies were
seamanship, close order drill, Naval
history and first aid. Personnel who
complete this course of instruction
are eligible for three hours of col-
lege credit in Physical Education
and Hygiene.

RODNEY H. COULTON, son of
Frank H. and Ann Coulton of Rural
Route 1, Harveys Lake, has com-
pleted basic training at Fort Dix,
N.J.
During the training, students
received instruction in drill and
ceremonies, weapons, map reading,
tactics, military courtesy, military
justice, first aid, and Army history
and traditions.

RONALD SZELA, of Anchorage,
Alaska, recently spent a week visit-
ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. STan-
ley Szela, of Fernbrook, RD 6,
Dallas.
Ronald is married to the former
Connie Hreha of Exeter and is
employed as a mechanical engineer
for the city of Anchorage.

MR. AND MRS. HENRY HESS of
Dallas and Elizabeth Hess Douglas,
Mr. Hess’ sister, of Caldwell, New
Jersey, recently returned home fol-
lowing a train trip across Canada.
The trio visited Tornoto, Victoria
and Calgary where they enjoyed a
helicopter tour.

has completed the Army’s construc-
tion machine operator course at
Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
During the course, students were
trained to operate and maintain
heeavy construction equipment and
received practical experience by
actually working at construction
sites.

CHARLES BATKA, R.R. 4, Box
425, Dallas, PA., has been named to
the Presidential Honor Society at
the DeVry Institute of Technology in
Columbus, OH.
To be eligible for the prestigious
honor, students must have a cumu-
lative grade point average of at
least 3.5 (out of a possible 4.0) after
two terms of study. Batka, a student
in the Computer Information Sys-
tems program, has a 4.0 GPA.

DR. EUGENE P. PRYOR, JR,
son of Mrs. Margaret Pryor and the
late Eugene Pryor of Shavertown,
has returned te Ilortheastern Penn-
sylvania after completing his intern-
ship and serving as a post doctoral
Fellow in Clinical Psychology at
Massachusetts General Hospital and
Harvard Medical School.
» A native of Dallas, ‘Dr. Pryor
graduated from Central Catholic
High School in Kingston, received
his Bachelor of Arts degree in
Psychology with honors from Mill-
ersville University, his Master of
Arts degree in Clinical Psychology
from Oakland University where he
was awarded a Fellowship and his
Doctor of Psychology degree in
Clinical Psychology from Nova Uni-
versity.
Dr. Pryor is married to the
former Deborah Weichel of Dun-
more. They now reside with their
daughter, Meagan, in Lake Ariel.
He has opened an office to prac-
tice general clinical psychology in
the Abington Forum in Clarks
Green.

pany held their meeting on Sept. 12
at the Fire Hall. Hostesses were

NING, and Mrs. Margaret Bonning,
enjoyed a week’s vacation in
Canada.

MARINE LANCE CPL. ALLEN
D. HILBERT, son of Harry C. and
Janet C. Hilbert of Route 1, Dallas,
recently departed on a deployment
to the Western Pacific.
He is a member of 2nd Battalion,
6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division,
Camp Lejeune, N.C.
~ His unit will spend six months
overseas as part of the Marine
Corps’ unit deployment program.
The concept is designed to rotate
whole battalions or squadrons at a
time instead of individuals at sepa-
rate intervals. In this way, unit
integrity is retained and the actual
time spent overseas is shortened.

RONALD T. SCHALL, son of Bar-
bara and Ronald Schall Sr. of Route
5, Shavertown, was one of over 600
U.S. Navy Midshipmen from the
U.S. Naval Academy and NROTC
Universities across the country who
participated in summer training
cruises aboard ships of the U.S.
Seventh Fleet.
The annual cruises augment
classroom studies and give prospec-
tive Naval officers a preview of
their future.
During the training cruise mid-
shipmen work in a number of ship-
board jobs, gaining valuable practi-
cal experience. They also have the
opportunity to visit several coun-
tries located within the Seventh
Fleet operating area, which covers
some 52 million square miles of the
Western Pacific and Indian Oceans.

MICKEY AND HANK BARTOS
served as co-chairpersons for a
fund-raising party held at Nelson
Bunker Hunt’s ranch in Dallas,
Texas, during the 1984 Republican
Convention held there.
The Bartos couple, of Orange,
were chairpersons of the affair,
which was termed the ‘‘largest
fund-raiser’’ for the Republican
party during convention week.,
Mr. and Mrs. Bartos are mem-
bers of the National Conservative
Political Action Committee
(NCPAC) which is headquartered in
Washington, D.C.
