Northwest defeated Dallas 23-32
and Wyoming Area 22-33 in a tri-
cross country meet at Shickshinny
last Tuesday. Dallas Mountaineers,
coached by Don Hosey, picked up
their first win by defeating Wyo-
ming Area 27-29. Northwest won two
matches by forfeit in the girls com-
petition.
Dan Pszenichzny placed first in
15:44 and Jan Artley came in
second in 16:10 to lead Northwest to
their double win.
Bob Oliver of Dallas took third
with 16:27 and M. Wright of Dallas
placed fourth with 16:40.
Wyoming's Laport took fifth in
16:51; Northwest's Petrosky came
in sixth in 17:06; Warrior Hromek
made seventh with 17:13; C. Pszeni-
czny, Northwest came in eighth in
17:18; Wyoming’s Balint was ninth
in 17:45; M. Lasecki placed 10th for
Dallas in 17:57.
Coming in 11th was Mount Bill
Gable in 18:09; Wyoming's Kovalein
took 12th in 18:27; Northwest's
Plashinski was 13th with 18:57;
Thomas of Wyoming came in 14th
with 20:02 and Scalange of Wyoming
was 15th in 20:03.
In the second tri-meet of the week
over Tunkhannock’s 2.9 mile course,
the Mountaineers were defeated 25-
32 by the Tunkhannock tigers but in
turn the Mountaineers won 23-32
over Seton Catholic Eagles.
Mountaineers Mark Wright placed
ahead of all runners with 16:31 and
his team mate Bob Oliver came in
second in 16:33. Dave Fenton of the
Tigers placed third with a time of
16:35.

Finishing first
Dave Janiczek of the Lake-
Lehman Cross Country team
is all alone as he is about to
cross the finish line in the
Knights’ tri-meet held last
week.
Other results of the meet were

nowicz (T) 17:19; Frank Groblewski
(S) 17:24; Chris Olshan (T) 17:25;

15th with a time of 18:50.
Over the Lake-Lehman course the
Black Knights took two wins led by
Dave Janiczek in 15:44 over the 2.9
course. The Knights bested Wyo-
ming Valley West 15-42 and Hanover
Area 23-32. The wins gave the Black
Knights a 7-1 record to date.
Hanover’s Gerry Gabriel placed
second in 16:02 and Knight John
Rosencrans came in third in 16:15.
Joe Makowski (H) was fourth with
16:37 and fifth place was Lake-
Lehman’s Dave Radomski in 16:38.

Worman (H) 17:07; Steve Kazmier-

Back Mountain soccer teams —
Cosmos, Strikers, Kicks and Row-
dies — are the league leaders in the
Division II U.16 Soccer Loop, fol-
lowed closely by the Forty Fort
Pioneers. Next week’s match-up of
the postponed game between the
Kicks and the Rowdies should be
quite a game. Also the Strikers
versus the Rowdies and the Kicks
against the Cosmos who play back
to back commencing at 1 p.m. at
the Dallas Township Field, Satur-
day, Oct. 6.
Games played Sept. 29 were BM
Kicks over the WB Blast 4-1, Jimie
Lister scoring first on a penalty,
Mike Dzanko on a rebound shot
from Scott Shafer, David Morris
and Jimmie Lister each adding one
on powerful throw ins near the box
by Rick Parry.
BM Cosmos defeated the BM
Sting 7-2, on scores by Jodi
Hummel, Chris Scharff, Aaron
Dennis, Eric Marshll. Bruce
Weaver notched a hat-trick on the
day scoring twice unassisted and
one aided by Scharff. John Mersh-
baum netted both goals for the Sting
who played most of the game with 9
men due to injuries.
BM Strikeers posted a 3-0 win
over the FF Pioneers on goals by
D.J. Hopkins on a pass from Dale
Root on the Wing. Chris Hampel
hammered in the second goal then
assisted J.J. Phillips on the third.
Charlie Leaf recorded the shut out
in goal for the STrikers.
BM Rowdies downed the MT
Rangers 7-0 with John Sheehan
recording his fourth shut-out of the
season in goal. Jeff Miller notched
his first goal of the season having a
super game in midfield, as Paul
Melone notched his second hattrick
of the season. Others scoring were
Enrico Nardone, Jason Maniskas
and Eric Rosentel.

In a tri-match at Irem Temple
Golf Course Monday, Sept. 24,
Dallas ran its record to 8-2 by
defeating Meyers 1312-7% and Lake-
Lehman 18%-2Y%.. The Mountaineers
dropped to 8-3 following Wednesday,
Sept. 26, match with Valley West
over the same course when they
were edged 11-10 by the Spartans.
Shutouts by Rich Holthaus and
A.J. Bittner led the Mountaineers to
the win over the Mohawks although
Meyers John Donnini took first
medalist honors with a one-over-par
49 on the 12-hole course.
Mountaineers Derek Tamburro
took second honors with 57 and Jim
Aikman was third with 58.
Donnini shut out Tamburro 3-0
and Mohawk Grula took Darren
Spivey 21-1. Jim Aikman of Dallas
defeated Tarutis 2%-%; Mount
Albert won over Roberts 2Y%-l%;
Holthaus shut out Lecce 3-0 and
Bittner blanked Klug 3-0.
The Mountaineers posted five
shutouts over the Black Knights in
their match to win 18%-21%. Tam-

Jason Prokopchak, son of Walter
and Jean Prokopchak of Dallas,
placed second in the 80-pound ele-
mentary division in the Sunbury
Wrestling Tournament held
recently.

burro shutting out Lopasky 3-0;
Spivey tying Ladmesser 1%-1%;
Aikman shutting out Bozinski 3-0.
Other shutouts were recorded by
Albert of Lake-Lehman’s Spencer;
Holthaus taking Knight Krupa; and
Bittner defeating Knight Frederick.
In the match with Valley West
‘played Thursday over the 12-hole
course at Irem Temple Country
Club it was an evenly played match
with the final point going to the
Spartans for the 11-10 score.
“It’s just one of those things,”
said Dallas Coach Charles Preece,
concerning his Mountaineers loss to
the Spartans. “We were picked to
win but the kids didn’t play to their
potential on Wednesday. That can
happen to the best but it was an
excellent match going down to the
wire.”
Spartan George Audi shot 55 over
the 12-hole par-48 course to take low
medalist honors. Mountaineer
Darren Spivey was second with 57
and Spartan Mark Kopec took third

Shutouts were recorded by Mount
Rich Fuller over Spartan Patton, 3-
0; and Valley West’s Smith over
Jim Aikman 3-0.
Other results were Kopec defeat-
ing Derek Tamburro 2-1; Audi
taking Spivey 2-1; Rich Holthaus of
Dallas taking Valley West’s Jones 2-
1; and A.J. Bittner defeating Spar-
tan Ostrowski 2-1.
The loss dropped the Mountai-
neers to 7-2, their other loss coming
in the season’s opening match with
Hanover.
Lake-Lehman linksmen traveled
to Tunkhannock last week where
they lost 20-1 to the Tunkhannock
Tigers on the Shadowbrook course.
The Tigers took all of the
matches, five of the six by shutouts.
Tim Paulson took low medalist
honors with a 55. His teammates
Rob Lange and John Boretti won
second and third medalist honors.
Lange defeated John Lopasky 3-0;
Boretti shut out Chris Landmesser
3-0; Boretti blanked Don Buzinkai 3-
0; Justice took D. Spencer 3-0;
Shaffer defeated Todd Krupa 3-0. D.
Fredericks scored the Knights lone
point losing 2-1 to Tiger W. Cole.
