The players on the sidelines during a football game are just
» as important to the team as the players on the field. Here,
members of the Kingston Township Raiders Junior Football
team await their turn to play during a recent scrimmage
game.

Members of of Back Mountain Junior Football
teams are practicing daily in preparation for the
opening of the Suburban League competition on
Sunday, August 26.
During the past week, approximately 75 mem-
bers of the Dallas Cowboys and Kingston Town-
ship Raiders teams of the Back Mountain Junior
Football Club also held sbrimmages with West
Side teams to help improve their offense and
defense drills. Lehman Lions play in the Subur-
ban League but they are not members of the
Back Mountain Club. They have not yet held
scrimmatges with other teams but plan to do so
before the opening day of the league which is
less than two weeks away.
All three teams have cheerleading squads,
who are practicing new cheers and pyraminds
for this season’s games. Approximately 50 girls
will be outfitted in uniforms the color of their
area’s team. They are under the direction of
dedicated volunteers, some of them having been
advisors for at least seven years.
The Cowboys dressed in blue and white and
the Raiders in uniforms of black an gray have A
and B squads, the B squad comprised of the
younger boys playing the first game each
Sunday, and the A squad made up of 11 to 13
year old members playing the second game. The
Lions in uniforms of black and gold have divided
their 50 members into three squads, A the
olderboys, B slightly younger, and C the young-
est members.
Eight teams will compete against one another
in the Suburban League this season including the
Cowboys, Raiders, Lions, Newport Nutcrackers,
Northeast Crusaders, Northwest Jets, Nanticoke
Rams and the Larksville Green Waves.
Dallas and Kingston Township will use Dallas
Senior High school field as their home gridiron;
Lehman Lions home field will be Lake-Lehman
High School stadium. Newport Nutcrackers
home field will be the Newport Recreation Park,
Northeast, the Dan Flood field in Wilkes-Barre;
Northwest Jets, Northwest High School field;
Larksville’s home field will be the West Side
Tech field and Nanticoke’s home field will be the
John S. Fine High School’s field.
The league will open Aug. 26 and the closing
date will be Oct. 21 when Dallas and Kingston
Township will play for the “Gold Football” in
the Back Mountain’s championship game. There
also will be a Super Bowl game at the end of the
sale.
