Robert who attends Wyoming
Valley West High School, was nomi-
nated by Mr. Stasyszyn, his Latin
teacher. Robert will appear in the
United States Achievement Acad-
emy Official Yearbook, published
nationally. The Criteria for selection
are a student’s academic perform-
ance, interest and apitutde, leader-
ship qualities, responsibility, enthu-
siasm, motivation to learn and
improve, citizenship, attitude and
cooperative spirit, dependability
and recommendation from a
teacher or director.
Robert is the son of Mary Ann
Wintersteen and the late Robert D.
Wintersteen, of Harveys Lake. His
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Nicholas Ambrose, of Pringle, Mrs.
Evelyn K. Wintersteen of Harveys
Lake and Dallas an the late Delmar
Wintersteen. Robert is on the wres-
tling team.

Sheehan named
to EDC board
John F. Sheehan, Jr., of Dallas,
executive director of the Greater
Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Com-
merce, has been elected to the
Board of Directors of the American
Economic Development Council.
AEDC is a national professional
association serving over 1,000 mem-
bers throughout the United States
and Canada who are concerned with
the advancement of economime and
industrial development.
As a board member, Mr. Sheehan
will be responsible for establishing
policy concerning the Council’s var-
ious educational activities, certifica-
tion program and other member
services.
Sheehan is also associated with
other economic, educational, and
industrial development organiza-
tions. Currently he serves as Direc-
tor of the following boards: Eco-
nomic Development Council of
Northeast Pennsylvania; Leader-
ship Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Wyo-
ming County Economic Education
Foundation; Pennsylvania State
University Wilkes-Barre Campus
Board, and is President Elect of the
Pennsylvania Chamber of Com-
merce Executives.
John F. Sheehan, is a graduate of
Wilkes Colldge. He has completed a
W.K. Kellog Foundation Fellowship
in Public Affairs Leadership at the
Pennsylvania State University.

Mrs. Dorothy
Mrs. Dorothy Laurence of Jack-
son Township observed her 101st
birthday on June 19.
Mrs. Laurence was born in
Orient, Long Island, in 1883. She
lived most of her life in Hempstead,
New York, but now resides with her
daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Perkins in
Jackson Township.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs.
Laurence had a son, Frank, who is
now deceased. She also has five
grandchildren and 13 great-grand-
children.
Mrs. Laurence, who enjoys listen-
ing to Paul Harvey on the radio and
Tom Brokaw on television, says the
one thing that stands out in her
mind is shaking hands with Teddy
Roosevelt. :
A family dinner was held to cele-
brate the occasion.
Area Girl Scouts troops recently
