At Harveys Lake Groundwork has been laid for the Sixth Annual Irish Heritage Games. The keystone event of the Games is the popular 8.25 mile Genesee Run which follows a picturesque course around the perimeter of Harveys Lake. The competition will be held on Saturday, June 16, at Hanson's Park as a featured event of the Harveys Lake Homecoming Festi- val which will also offer aquatic activities, exhibits, contests, refreshments and social events. The Irish Heritage runs have grown steadily since they began in 1978. Last year’s entries exceeded 600 registrants from Pennsylvania and surrounding states. A one mile “fun run” was introduced last year. In response to strong demand, the I.H.G. Committee will introduce a new feature to the 1984 Games - a 5 Kilometer Intermediate Run. “This will offer a full range of distances for everyone who’d like to partici- pate’’ ‘explained Chairman Charles Boyle. He noted that many runners have expressed & preference for a shorter competitive run. All of the runs will be held on the same day. Boyle expects little diffi- culty in coordinating the three races. “We’re recognized as one of the best organized runs in the area and we have outstanding physical facili- ties at Harveys Lake,” says Boyle, who attributes the success of the Games to a highly dedicated and experienced staff of volunteers. Amenities, as usual, will include several water stations, fruit, refreshments, T-shirts, the services of a pedorthist and medical person- nel, and outstanding prizes which will include diamond rings donated by Tommy Van Scoy and United Penn Bank, and anthracite coal trohpies. ; The Genesee Brewing Company and Arrow Beer Distributing Com- pany have again accepted primary ganaro, Regional Representative for Genesee Beer pointed out that his company is committed to support- ing worthwhile regional causes, Back Mountain In the Back Mounta Baseball League, Back took a 1-0 victory ®ver Ziggy’s of Wilkes-Barre behind the strong arm of Mark Kirk who hurled a no- hitter.
