Dallas pitcher Sandi Shone hurled a two-hit 8-0 shut out over Hazleton and went for three hits at the plate to lead her team to the win on Friday afternoon. Shone allowed only two singles while striking out four and walking four. Ferro and Rossi collected the two hits for the Hazleton nine. The local Mountaineers scored one run in the first inning and one in the fourth to hold a 2-0 lead going into the top half of the sixth. They used six hits to score six runs in the sixth and run the score to 8-0. Lori Handley set the pace in the late inning driving in two runs with a double, her second hit of the game. Julie Adams hit a two-run single in the same frame. Michelle Wallace picked up three hits for Dallas and Sheri Ciccarelli had two, one of them a double. Dallas collected 14 hits off Hazle- ton’s C. Lehman, who fanned six and walked five. The Lady Mountaineers scored 11 runs in the first inning on Wednes- day afternoon to trounce Hanover 12-2. Dallas had only six hits but took advantage of seven errors by the Hawkeyes to add up their score. Karen Banks led the hitting in the first inning and drove out a two-run double. Picking up the win for Dallas was hit, fanning one and walking two. Jill Solinski hurled a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking four to lead Lake-Lehman to a 14-0 shut out over Bishop Hoban last Wednes- day. Sandy Dicton hit two-for-two with three RBI’s and scored two runs. Sue Bonsavage hit two-for-four and also scored two runs for the Lady Knights. While beating the Indians, Keith Schultz nailed a grand slam home run with Rich James striking out 11 batters. In their other win, a 12-3 victory over the Reds, Schultz went 4 for 4 at the plate, including three home runs. James also blasted one over the fence to help his team’s cause. The Yankees also added two in the win column when, in their win pounded out a bases-loaded home run. Eric Paczewski banged out two hits in his team’s losing effort. DENMON Staff Correspondent Dallas boys baseball team scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on Wednesday to go in front of Hanover 12-11 but their hopes for a win were dashed in the bottom of the sixth when John Sherkauskas hit a two-run homer to edge the Moun- taineers 13-12. J. Dent, who pitched only one inning was credited with the loss. Moyer started on the mound for Dallas but gave way to L. Konopke who hurled for three and two thirds innings. Powerful at the plate were Cool- baugh with three-for-four, two of them triples, Moye three-for-four all singles. D. Thomas two-for-three, one a double, A.J. Bittner, two- for- four, one a double and scoring two runs, Grove rapping out a triple and pitcher Lewis ripping out a double. On Tuesday the Mountaineers raised their record to 4-3 on Rich Gdovin’s three hitter which gave them a 12-3 win over Meyers High School. ; Art Coolbaugh led the Dallas hit- ting attack with three hits and four RBI’s. Paul Lewis hit a three-run homer and Brian Moye drove in the game winning run with a triple in the first inning. T. Grove hit a triple and Dave Thomas and A.J. Bittner joiend in with deubles. Coolbaugh, Janosik and Thomas added stolen bases to their credit. Gdovin struck out seven and walked four in taking the win. L. Maffet was credited with the loss for Meyers. LEHMAN LOSES In a close contest on Wednesday at Coal Street Park, Bishop Hoban topped Lake-Lehman 9-7 paced by Bert Knoll’s two hits accounting for three runs. The Argents pitchers collected 11 hits, one a double and one a triple. The Knights were paced by Bill Bearde’s two-for-five at home plate and doubles by VC. Wargo and Weidner. C. Boyle gave the Knights a long triple. Wargo and Traver each scored two runs for the Knights. Weidner and Crispell did the pitching for Lake-Lehman with Cris- pell taking the loss. On Tuesday the Knights trounced West Side Tech 15-5 led by A. Michaels who struck out six, walked four and drove out three-for-four at the pate, one of his hits a double: Billy Boyle, Billy Bearde and Chris Wargo joined Michaels in the Knights 15 hits attack on the Titans. Boyle and Wargo each had three hits and Bearde had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in three RBI's. Bearde, Wargo, J. Martin and T. Willie Cadwalader each had" stolen bases for the Knights. j J. Lutz was the losing pitcher for the Titans. In what was to be the Knights home game, the G.A.R. Grenadiers pounded the Knights 13-3 on Monday afternoon on the Coal Street field. The game was changed due to the wet conditions of the Knights play- ing field. ; The Grenadiers scored seven runs in the second inning enough to win the game. They scored one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth frames and three in the top of the sixth. The Knights scored their three runs in the first inning. Bearde led off the inning with a walk, whent to second on a sacrifice and scored on Chris Wargo’s double. T. Willie Cad- walader hit a hoem run over the left field fence to score Wargo and himself. Wargo also had two dou- bles for the Knights. Bearde was the losing pitcher going for five of the innings and fanning two, walking five.
