h The monthly meting of the
Lehman Ladies Fire Auxiliary was
I held recently. Elected as officers
5 were Florence Campbell, president;
Judy Gunn, vice-president; Elda
Coolbaugh, treasurer; Helen Gunn,
secretary; and Louann Alters, alter-
nate.
A coupon swap will be held
Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the
fire hall. There will be a $1 donation
and everyone attending is asked to
bring a canned or non-perishable
item for a grocery bag raffle.
Refreshments will be served. For
more information, call Ginny Welby
at 675-2542.
Plans were made for the Annual
Halloween Party which will be held
Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at the
fire hall.
The auxiliary meets the third
Thursday of each month. Everyone
is invited to attend.

“First Resident” and his “First
Lady” celebrated a 49th wedding
anniversary at the Meadwos Nurs-
ing Center on Sept. 26.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cragle,
formerly of Mooretown and more
recently of the Meadows Apart-
ments in Dallas, spent their anni-
versary as they had the 48 previous
ones - together. This may not sound
special or different, but it is to the
Cragles because of their situation.
On Aug. 31, Mr. Cragle became
the first resident ever to be admit-
ted to the newly opened Meadows
information by contacting Gene
Schray at Dallas, 675-1704 or Ann
Higgins at Chase 696-2106.

Nursing Center. Before that time,
Mr. and Mrs. Cragle had resided in
their one bedroom unit in the Mead-
ows Apartments, located directly
adjacent to the Nursing Center.
The couple was married by Rev.
James S. Henry on Sept. 26, 1934 at
the Bethesda Congregational
Church in Edwardsville. They were
blessed with three daughters: Mrs.
Nancy Dick, Kingston; Mrs. Lea
Newberry, West Nanticoke; and Ms.
Martha Cragle, Clarks Summit.
They also have seven grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cragle was formerly
employed at the Luzerne Anthracite
Coal Company. He later worked as
a well-driller until his health forced
him to retire in 1962. Mrs. Cragle
worked for 25 years at Natona Mills
before her retirement.
PTA begins
fund-raiser
the start of its fund-raising sale at a
kick-off assembly held Sept. 23.
Items to be sold, such as Haney’s
Old-Fashioned Cookies, Cadbury
Bars (three varieties), York Pep-
permint Patties, Cadbury Cara-
mello bars, gift wraps and trims
and two-year planners, were dis-
played to the children.
Ralph Flowers, representative of
Haney Fund Raisers, also displayed
prizes that can be earned for the
different categories of selling.
Top seller will receive a choice of
a Jumbo portable AM-FM stereo
cassette, a black and white TV, a
boy or girl Huffy Bike, a four-
person cabin tent or $100 cash.
Proceeds from the sale will be
used for programs, parties and var-
ious activities offered to the stu-
dents.

MARCHING BAND was awarded
first place, Class II in the Music in
Motion competition sponsored by
the Whitehall Marching Band, Whi-
tehall.
Under the direction of David C.
Benn, the Dallas Band has enjlyed
great success in T.0.B. competition.

Olde Clock Shoppe, Dallas, donated
300 Russian Orthodox crosses that
were blessed in Holy Trinity Rus-
sian Orthodox Church, 401 E. Main
St., Miners Mills Section, Wilkes-
Barre, on Oct. 2.
The service. was in conjunction
with the blessing of automobiles in
front of the church. Rev. George G.
Pawlush, pastor, blessed thecars as
they were driven past the church
and Lipko distributed the crosses
which can be mounted on the dash-
boards of the automobiles.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT
MANFRED DIEL, son of Frederick
W. and Anita E. Weiss, of Rt. 1,
Dallas, has completed recruit train-
ing at the Naval Training Center,
Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week training
cycle, trainees studied general mili-
tary subjects designed to prepare
them for further academic and on-
the-job training in one of the Navy’s
85 basic occupational fields.
Included in their studies were
seamanship, close order drill, Naval
history and first aid.

a Bachelor of Science degree in
Physical therapy from Ithaca Col-
lege, Ithaca, N.Y. in September.
Candystripers wanted
Miriam Tomasetti, President of
the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Aux-
iliary, announced there are several
openings for volunteer supervisors
in the Fall candystriper program.
Under the auspices of the hospital
auxiliary, the candystriper program
permits area teens to experience
hospital life. Opened to youngsters
13 years of age and older, this
program has seen significant
growth over the past two years.
The volunteer supervisor's pro-
gram was initiated last year as a
result of the increasing number of
area teens enrolled in the candystri-
per program.

volunteer opportunity, contact the
office for volunteer services at Nes-
bitt Memorial Hospital weekdays
between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
