Also serving as union representatives were the following members of the Orchestra Commit- tee: Robert Nowak, of Shenandoah, percussionist; Mary Louise Vere- meychik, principal flutist, and Lil- lian Supplee, violinist, both of Wilkes-Barre; Charles England, of Oneonta, N.Y., principal tuba; and Jeanette Wagner, of Scranton, orchestra librarian and member of the bass section. Seniors hold cookout The Senior Citizens of the Mead- ows held a cookout on Aug. 23. The menu consisted of cubed steak on hard roll, hot dogs, potato chips, sliced tomatoes, corn on the cob, cut fresh fruit, relishes, watermelon, coffee, soda and ice tea. Two serv- ings for 75 residents was at noon and 5 p.m. General chairman was George Bartorillo; chairlady of the kitchen was Florence Shively; co-chairlady was Dorothy Derr; outdoor chefs were George Bartorillo, Herb Phil- lips, Bob Franc, Mike Manganello. Several ladies of the Meadows served and worked at the cookout. Outdoor games were played and prizes were awarded. The Meadows is a housing project for the elderly sponsored by the Ecumenical Enterprises Inc. Volunteers sought Jean Herron, Chairman of Volun- teers of the Wyoming Valley Chap- ter, American Red Cross is making an urgent appeal for volunteers to work at the Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Blood Center in Hanover Township. Interested volunteers would have the choice of working in the follow- ing areas: hostess, registrar, plas- tics assembly, escort, canteen, coor- dinator. PAK plans meeting Back Mountain PAK, which stands for Parents And Kids, will hold a public meeting on Monday, September 12, at 7:30 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Church Street, Dallas. PAK is sponsoring educational, awareness and recreational pro- grams for Back Mountain families. One of PAK’s main concerns is the drug and alcohol abuse among today’s teenagers. PAK hopes to help make the public more aware of the problems, to educate kids and parents alike, and to provide alerna- tive activities for the youth in our community. PAK needs your HELP! The suggestions, support, and assistance of Back Mountain residents are necessary if PAK is to accomplish its goal. Drivers use Red Cross vehicles to transport volunteers, blood and do other errands. Jerry Tallent is pastor, were scheduled to return last Saturday after spending a week at Black Lake, Stanleyville, Ontario, Canada. The group left Noxem Monday morning, Aug. 22, for their annual trip.
