Shanky’'s Over the Hill Dart League held its annual Dart
League Banquet recently at Shanky’s Bar on Hughes St.,
Swoyersville. Members of ‘‘Penn State’’, the winning team
were Ozzie Williams, Jim Cruthers, Emery ‘‘Washko'' Vojtko
and Eddie Kulbacki. They were presented with jacket by
Shanky Adamchak Sr. and Steve ‘‘Cooksie’’ Adams, Dart

The Luzerne-Courtdale-Pringle Lions-
Club will hold its first Annual Chicken
Barbecue on Sunday, July 17 from noon
to 6 p.m. on the Main St. lot in Luzerne.
Michael Hardik, third vice-president
of the club, explained that the event
success of last year’s Centennial Com-
mittee Barbecue.
Bob Morgan, president, announced
the menu will include one-half chicken,
baked potato, vegetable, rolls, cake and
beverage.
Advance ticket sales are available at
Kovacs Market, Yakus Variety Store,
and Morgan Electric, all on Main St.,
Luzerne. Donation is $3.75. Takeouts
will be available throughout the bar-
beque.

Luzerne Borough will begin filing
complaints against property owners
who have failed to pay their sewer tax.
The action is being filed through Bor-
ough Solicitor Arthur L. Piccone.
Harold Noble, newly appointed chair-
man of the Sewer Authority said the
community has gone to considerable
length to allow property owners to pay
the $24.50 quarterly fee. He added
delinquent payers are unfair to those
who already paid the sewer rental.
John Oselnick, chairman of the coun-
cil, agreed. He said he feels it is simply
unfair to allow this to happen, so the

Forty Fort Borough Crime Watch
Chairman Jack Thompson, announced
last week how successful neighborhood
programs can be in reducing crime.
In 1982, Forty Fort’s first year in the
program, the crimes of theft, burglary
and vandalism were reduced by over 40
percent. i
Thompson made his presentation
during a recent town-wide meeting
attended by over 200 interested citizens.

Lt. and Mrs. Gregg Andres, formerly
of Swoyersville, announce the birth of
their first child, a son, Jonathan Pierce,
on May 26 at Martin Army Hospital,
Fort Benning, Ga.
The mother is the former Janet
Coniglio.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. John Coniglio of Filbert St., Swoy-
ersville and paternal grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Andres of Church
St., Swoyersville.
Paternal great-grandparents are

recently at Holy Trinity School with
Agnes Vitanovec, vice president, pre-
siding.

‘arrangements for the annual picnic to

Swoyersville Hose Co. No. 1 of Scott
St., Swoyersville, will sponsor its
annual bazaar on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, Aug. 5, 6, 7 at their grounds.
Featured will be a variety of foods
and entertainment. Music will be fur-
nished on Aug. 5 and 6 by the ‘‘Henry
Charles Orchestra’ and on Aug. 7, by
the “Polka Partners.” The parade will
be held on Friday, Aug. 5.

Msgr. Michael C. Polcha of Holy
Trinity Parish of Hughes St., Swoyers-
ville will be honored at a banquet on
Sunday, Sept. 11. The day will begin
with a concelebrated Mass of Thanks-
giving at 3 p.m. in the Holy Trinity
Church and the event will culminate
with the a big banquet at Gus Genetti’s
Motor Inn, Wilkes-Barre at 5 p.m.
Tickets must be reserved by July 31.
All parishioners are invited. Tickets
and table assignments may be picked
up after all Masses on Aug. 27 and 28 ng

Msgr. Polcha is celebrating the 50th
anniversary of his ordination to the
priesthood this year. He is also cele-
brating 25 years as a monsignor and 25
years as pastor of Holy Trinity Parish
and his 75th birthday in July.
Rev. Joseph Ziobro, honorary chair-
man, along with the Jubilee Committee
will be available for more information.
John Husovsky is chairman with
Madeline Barush as co-chairman. Mary
Chipego is treasurer and Mary Wilce
serves as secretary. Other committee
members are Andrew Lawrence, tick-
ets; Carol Matinas and Fran Krajnak,
publicity; Don Wilce and Joseph Lipin-

Rudy Leandri was commended by
John Osolnick, chairman of Luzerne
Council, for his fine service as the 10-
year chairman of the Luzerne Borough
Sewer Authority.
Leandri will remain as a board
member of the authority with Harold
Noble stepping in as chairman.

This past Fourth of July had to be
one of the best celebrated by most of
the residents of the West Side. Many
yard parties were held and at night
many fireworks - the most ever as
some of the old-timers could remember
- were shot. Everything turned out okay
as no serius injuries were reported.

Lou Vozniak of Hemlock St., Swoyers-
ville recently returned to his home
following a medical stay at Nesbitt
Hospital. His family, neighbors and
friends wish Lou a speedy recovery ange
hope to see him up and around soon. 0
Lou is a top gardener as he has
produced large tomatoes and other
vegetables. He is also top dart and pool
player. Get well, Lou.
MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH POLLICK,
161 Kossack St., Swoyersville will cele-
brate their 21st wedding anniversary
tomorrow. They were wed on July 14,
1962 at St. Mary’s Church in Swoyers-
ville by the late Rev. Anthony Lewan-
dowski. Mrs. Pollick is the former
Shirley Vinsko of Swoyersville.
The Pollicks are the parents of five
children, Christopher, Brenda, Pamela,
Joseph Jr. and Eric. They also have a
granddaugher, April Pollick.
Mr. Pollick is manager at the NRT in
Scranton. He is also manager of the
Cicero team of the Swoyersville Major
League. Mrs. Pollick is employed at the
J.C. Penney Store in "the Wyoming
Valley Mall as the head of the House-
hold Department.

MR. AND MRS. STEPHEN YUHAS,
JR., 1025 Main St., Swoyersville will
celebrate their 32nd wedding anniver-
sary tomorrow. They were married on
July 14, 1951 by Rev. Joseph Monaghan,
cousin of Mr. Yuhas, at Holy Savior
Church in Wilkes-Barre. Mrs. Yuhas is
the former Mary Jule McAfee, daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jame
son of Mr. Stephen Yuhas and the late
Anna Yuhas of Swoyersville.
The Yuhas’ are the parents of seven
children, Stephen III, James, Mrs.
Mary Kay Covert, William, Mrs. Susan
Coulter, Joyce and Julie. They also
have four grandchildren, Kimberly
Yuhas, Marissa Coulter, Kevin Covert,
William Yuhas Jr.
Yuhas is employed at the Luzerne
Products Co. in Plainsville. Mrs.’ Yuhas
is employed with the Fad Mfg. on
Hughes St., Swoyersville.
245 Slocum St., Swoyersville, will cele-
brate their 14th wedding anniversary
Tuesday. They were wed on July 19,
1969 at St. Mary’s Church .in Swoyers-
ville by Rev. Edward Sokolowski. Mrs.
Hlavac is the former Mary Shedletski,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Shedlet-
ski of Swoyersville. Hlavac is the son of
Mrs. Julie Hlavac and the late Chief of
Police George Hlavac.
Their attendants were Bernadette
Shedletski Sacavage and Barry
Baseski.
The Hlavacs are the parents of three
children, Dennis Jr., Kerry Ann and
Gregg.
Hlavac is a heavy equipment opera-
tor. Dennis is also manager of the
Barilla’s Girls Softball team in the
Wyoming Valley Traveling League. ¥

MR. AND MRS. FRANK STACK, 189
Simpson St., Swoyersville will celebrate
their 37th wedding anniversary Wednes-
day. They were married on July 20,
1946 by the late Rev. Joseph Buda at St.
Mary’s Church in Swoyersville. Mrs.
Stack is the former Virginia Nedelak of
Swoyersville. Stack is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Stachnewicz
of Swoyersville.
