West Side Senior Citizens under
Project Head met this past week at
Sacred Heart Church on Charles
St., Luzerne. Plans were formu-
lated for a four-day trip to Canada
on Aug. 11. Non-members are
invited. Reservations can be made
by calling Helen Amos at 288-1440.

It’s good to see Mike ‘‘Cactus”
Stelma of Church St., Swoyersville
up and around. Cactus was a medi-
cal patient at Nesbitt Hospital fol-
lowing an accident while he was
fixing an elevator. Cactus is a top
bowler and dart shooter, and is a
hard man to keep down.

Congratulations are in order to
Steve and Debbie Adamchak of
Bunker Hill, Trucksville, former
residents, who became the parents
of their first child, a son, Christo-
pher John “CJ”. Mrs. Adamchak is
the former Debbie Kovalchik,
daughter of Andrew Kovalchik of
Edwardsville and the late Dolores
Drust Kovalchik. Mr. Adamchik is
the son of Steve and Marie Adam-
chak of Hughes St., Swoyersville.
This is the third grandchild for the
Adamchaks.

The Altar and Rosary Society of
Holy Trinity Parish is sponsoring a
bus trip to Villa of the Sacred
Heart in Danville to attend and
partake in the Summer Festival,
Buccaneers Team
conducted by the Sisters of SS Cyril
and Methodius to be held on the
July 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Swoyersville No.'1 Fire Company
will sponsor a bus trip to Yankee
Stadium on Saturday, July 16, to
see the Yankees and Texas Rang-
ers on “Old Timers Day.” This will
be a chance for fans to see not only
the present Yankees play but the
likes of Joe DiMaggio, Mickey
Mantle, Yogi Bera, Phil Risuto,
etc. Persons interest may call Mike
Broda at 287-9165. Buses will leave
the Fire House on Scott St., Swoy-
ersville at 9 a.m.

The first half of the Swoyersville
Major Little League ended in a
three-way tie with Luzerne Bank,
Kiwanis Club and CWV Post 1601
tying for first place. They will play
it off at the end of the second half.
So far in the second half, Luzerne
Bank is leading with a 5-0 record
with Cicero’s behind them with a 4
2 record.
The All Star team will be picked
next week and they will begin in a
week or so playing different bor-
oughs in the playoffs.
In the Minor League it looks like
Bednarski’s will go all the way as
they took the first half and are now
leading in the second half.

Charley Kalmanowicz of Sidney
St., Swoyersville is a medical
patient at the Nesbitt Hospital. His
family, neighbors and many friends
wish him well and hope to see him
back at Baron’s Seafood soon.

fine residents in Mrs. Antonia Sira-
cuse of 33 Pettebone St., Swoyers-
ville. Our condolences go to the

No. 2 Hose Co. of Slocum St.
Swoyersville, and William Lehman,
hose company trustee, want every-
one to know that their Hose Co. No.
2 will not hold a bazaar this year.
They made out pretty good on their
recent Spaghetti Dinner Dance and

Atty. Andrew Puhak of Tripp St.,
Swoyersville, passed away
recently. He was Swoyersville Bor-
ough Solicitor since 1972 and had
been active in the St. Nicholas
Byzantine Catholic Church for
many years. He will be dearly
missed by everyone.

Lillian Russo, Program Head
Coordinator of Swoyersville Crime
will meet Thursday, July 7, at 7
p.m. at the Municipal Building.
Russo said that David Larkins, a
representative of the Department
of Treatment at Chase State Insti-
tution at Dallas, will be the main
speaker. Larkins will be accompan-
ied by two inmates who will speak
about their experiences.
Mrs. Russo said that youngsters
10 years of age and above are
invited to this meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Quinn of 704
Main St., Swoyersville, recently
became the parents of a son, Ryan.
Mrs. Quinn is the former Janice
Kovalick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Kovalick' of Milbre St.,
Swoyersville. Mr. Quinn is the son
of Mr. William Quinn of Wilkes-
Barre and the late Margaret Quinn.
He is employed with Conrail. Quinn
is active with the Knights of Colum-
bus 3987 and is a fourth degree
knight and is also active with the

"MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH HUDICK
— Anniversaries
MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH HUDICK, 25 Barber St.,
Swoyersville will celebrate their 60th wedding anniver-
sary Saturday. They were wed on July 9, 1923 at the
Holy Trinity Church by the late Rev. John A. Karnish.
Mrs. Hudick is the former Mary Kovalick of Swoyers-
ville.
The Hudicks are the parents of four children, Mrs.
Marie Dziadosz of Swoyersville; Anne, at home; Mrs.
Helen Stesney, Florida; and Joseph Jr., Centermore-
land. They also have four grandchildren, Robert and
Ronald Dziadosz and Donna Hudick.
Mr. Hudick is a retired miner and former policeman
of Swoyersville. ’

MR. AND MRS. LOUIS DIZIADOSZ, 45 Jay St.
Swoyersville will celebrate their 34th wedding anniver-
sary on the same date as Mrs. Dziadosz’ parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Hudick. They were married on July 9,
1949 by the late Rev. Joseph Buda and Rev. John
Masakowski, who is now pastor at St. John’s Church in
Larksville. Dziadosz is also a Swoyersville native.
The Dziadosz’ are the parents of two sons, Robert and
Ronald.
Dziadosz is employed at Wilkes-Barre Iron Inc. in
Swoyersville.

MR. AND MRS. JOHN HARCHAR JR., 66 Chestnut
St., Swoyersville will celebrate their 6th wedding
anniversary Saturday. They were wed on July 9, 1977 by
Rev. Walter Poplawski at Holy Trinity Church in
Nanticoke.
Mrs. Harchar is the former Nancy Bromfield, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Kerwin Bromfield of Nanticoke.
Harchar is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harchar Sr.,
Swoyersville. .

Jr., a magna cum laude
graduate of the University
of Scranton, has been
accepted at the Pennsyl-
vania State University Col-
lege of Medicine in Her-
shey for the fall semester.
While at Scranton Univer-
sity, he was a member of
the national pre-medical
honor society ‘‘Alpha Epsi-
lon Delta’.
He assisted in two major
research projects dealing
with. diabetes and virus
isolation during his senior
year. He was also a
teacher’s aide.
A 1979 graduate of Wyo-
ming Valley West High
School, Hospodar is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Hospodar Sr., of 173 Hem-
lock St., Swoyersville. He
is the grandson of Mr.
Agnes Savakinus of Luz-
erne.
The Swoyersville Girls
Softball League will hold
an All Star Tournament on
Friday and Saturday, July
8 and 9 at the Roosevelt
Park on Tripp St., Swoy-
ersville. Starting time for
July 8 will be 2 p.m.
Girls ages 11 and 12
from the Minor Division
will participate.
This year’s
include Forty Fort, last
year’s champions; Ashley,
Jenkins Twp. and Swoy-
ersville.
