A “Benefit Theatre Party” for the American Heart
Association, Northeastern Pa. Region will be held on
Friday, June 10, 7 p.m. at the Dorothy Dickson Darte
Center for the Performing Arts, Wilkes College. Pre-
theatre reception and showing of a classic musical film.

Run for Heart
~The Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department’s-Boscov’s
Run for Heart, Team Track Competion and Fun Run
and Walk will be held on Sunday, June 5, at Kirby Park.
‘Track Competition, 1 p.m., Fun Run and Walk, 3:30
p-m. The event benefits the American Heart Association
Northeastern Pa. Region. For more information call the

Boosters Meet
, The Band Boosters Association will meet on Tuesday,
May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dallas Senior High School.
Paper Drive :
The Back Mountain Kiwanis Club will hold its’ bi-
monthly Paper Drive on Saturday May 28 from 9 a.m. to
~ noon at Offset Paper Back Company, Dallas. Paper will
be Solletted only. No pickups will be handled by the
club.

Mini-Workshops
Sr. Benedicta San Antonio, Sister of Mercy, sculptor,
designer and artist, working at Stoneview Studio on the
Misericordia Campus in Dallas, will offer instruction in
enamelling. There will be two series of mini-workshops
to offer basic knowledge of several methods of enamell-
ing.
The first ‘session will begin on Tuesday, June 7 and
continue on the following Tuesdays, June 14, 21 and 28
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The second series will begin on Tuesday, July and
continue on the 12th, 19th and 26th, also from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m.
To cover the cost of materials to be used, there is a
charge of $30 per series of workshops. For more
information, or to register, the public is invited to
contact Sr. Benedicta at 675-1361.
Evangelist Crusade
Rev. Jimmy Alexander will be conducting an evange-
listic ‘Abundant Life’ crusade in Wilkes-Barre Wednes-
day, May 25 through Friday May 27. This event will be
held 7 p.m. nightly in the Granada Room of the Arena
Motor Inn, 500 Kidder St.

Film
The film, Feeling More Confident (A Hoult Self-
Image) will be shown at the Glenview Primitive
Methodist Church on Sunday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. This
is the third film in the Personal Insight Series from the
Narramore Foundation, and features Dr. Clyde Narra-
more, dean of Christian Psychologists. A discussion will
follow. Pastor Arthur Keiser invites the public to attend.
The church is located at the corner of Terrace and
Poplar in the Hernbrook section of Dallas.
Ladies Meet
The ladies of St. Frances Cabrini Church, Carverton,
will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 25
at 7 p.m. in the multi purpose room of the church.
Guest speaker will be Officer Beisel of Kingston Twp.
Police Force who will speak on home safety. Refresh-

Slimasize Course
The Harveys Lake Recreation Committee will sponsor
an exercise course entitled Slimasize. It will run from
June 1 to June 30, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Robert E.
Wintersteen Recreation Building. Registration will be
held on Tuesday, May 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rec.
Building. Instructor is Kay Cantrill. More information

The Shavertown Fire Co. will hold its annual auction
July 28-30.

The meeting will be held
at the Dallas home of Jean
Duda, who is a Welsh-
‘woman and a long time
resident of the Back Moun-
tain. Speaker is Jack Prit-
chard of Trucksville.
Pritchard is chairman of
GYMANFA GANU, Welsh
Festival to be held in
Wilkes-Barre, on Labor
Day weekend. The Festi-
val is being held in the
Northeastern United
States for the first time
and the Welsh of Wilkes-
Barre are very proud that
this area has been chosen.

visitors at the festival.
Over 3,000 Welsh people
are expected to come to
Wilkes-Barre on Labor
Day weekend for a week-
end of ‘‘Social and Song.”
The festivities will include
a banquet, tours and visits
around the area, a Billin-
gual Service and a choral
event on Sunday after-
noon. :
Two of the club mem-
bers are on the hospitality
committee and are being
kept very busy already.
They are Jean Duda who
immigrated with her
mother as a teenager and
met and married an Amer-
‘ican. Her mother and her
two grown up children live
in Dallas, but she still
visits Wales whenever she
can.
Another Welsh immi-
grant is Meryl Davis, to
whom English is a second
language. She is married
to Windsor Davis of Har-
veys Lake. Her mother is
still living in Wales but
has been over here for
extended visits.Meryl and
her children have been
“home” many times.
