and Joseph Stager. The eighth annual Back Mountain Lite Beer Run will blast off Sunday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at College ‘Misericordia, Dallas. More than 800 are expected to compete for approximately 200 awards in the various categories in the 10, four and one mile runs. The current record holder in the 10-mile event is Tom Carter of Bingham- ton, N.Y., who established a new course mark of 51:29. The 30-year old teacher will return to defend his title against a spectacular field. Last year’s top woman runner was Gloria Quinn of Ashley who crossed the finish line in a time of 1:09.36. In the four-mile race, the top mark is' 20:15, set by Kevin Mullen of Hones- dale last year. Stacey Nicholson holds the women’s record in the four-mile event with a time of 24:14, also set last year. Ten-year old = Ethan Krow of Philadelphia took the one-mile race last year with a time of 6:09. A portion of the entry fees in this race will be donated to the Wyoming Valley Childrens’ Museum. Winners of the 10 and four mile runs will receive a special pewter mug. Seventy five awards will be presented in 19 classes in the 10-mile run and 80 awards will be given in the 20 classes of the four-mile event. All finishers in the one- mile feature will be presented ribbons. All run- ners establishing an age group or course record will receive a new pair of the same running shoes they wear in the race. Pre-registration fee for the 10-mile race is $5 and $6 on the day of the race. The same entry fees are set for the four-mile event. Free overnight accom- modations at College Mis- ericordia are available for June 4 with advance reser- vations necessary. Cate- gories in the 10-mile run for males are: 12 and under, 13-15, 16-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40 and up. In the four-mile race, the categories are the same with the addition of a. 10-12 class and a nine and under group. The one- mile race is limited to 11 years of age and under. Both are recent graduates of Baptist Bible College at Clarks Summit. Accompanying Pastor and Mrs. Madigan were a group of young people from the First Baptist Church .at Horseheads, N.Y. where Rev. Mr. Madigan is pastor. Included among the young people was Stephanie Bowers, a niece of Pastor and Mrs. James Howell of Centermoreland. Mount Zion United Meth- odist Church was filled to capacity on May 14 when funeral services were held for the late Rev. Charles Gilbert of Mount Zion who had served many - United Methodist Churches as pastor during his years as a minister. More than a score of United Methodist ministers were among those in attendance at the funeral . service. Rev. D. Allan Cease, pastor of the Carverton United Method- ist Charge, - officiated. Sermon was preached by Rev. William Reid of Wilkes-Barre, superintend- ent of the Wyoming UM District. A daughter of the late minister, Dorothy Gilbert, a nurse midwife mission- ary in Sierra Leone, Africa, was unable to attend the funeral service. Her sister, Catherine, who lives in Mount zion and cared for her father, had a tape recording of the funeral services made, along with greetings from family members in attend- ance at the funeral. This has been forwarded fo Dorothy in Africa. Inter- ment was in Mount Zion cemetery.
