A former resident of
Swoyersville, Mrs.
Margaret Novak, passed
away recently. She is the
former Margart
Krakosky and came from
a large fine family. She is
the mother of John “The
Baker” Novak of Main
Street, Swoyersville and a
daughter Mrs. Mary Fine
of Linden, N.J. She is also
survived by 11 brothers
and sisters from various
sections of the country.

Sty Kuzma of Poland
Street, Swoyersville has
been taking advantage of
the warm weather we are
having as he has been
seen pruninghis trees in
his yard. Sty has a neat
yard and one of the finest
gardens around.

Plans are underway for
the 40th anniversary
reunion by the Class of
1943 Swoyersville High
School, on July 1, at the
Knights of Columbus Hall,
Luzerne, with cocktail
hour, dinner following,
and music for dancing.
Invitations have been
mailed and the class has
invited the Class of 1942 to
join with them in the next
meeting on Wednesday, at
Shanky’s Cafe on Hughes
Street, Swoyersville.

Konopka of the Swoyers-
ville Police Community
Ambulance Drive an-
nounced that the annual
drive is now underway,
until July. He said the
cards and envelopes have
been mailed to each
resident and he, along
with his committee, would
appreciate it if everyone
helps, as they have done
in the past. If anyone
didn’t get an envelope and
card, they are asked to
call the Swoyersville
Borough Building.

In a very close match,
Heather Hanko hit 345 to
take the Ding Bats to a
three point victory over
the Eagles, who had Jack
Baines with a 343.
The Raiders had Joey
Janoski with 467, plus help
from Xavier Evans 414
was good for three points
over the Rebels, who had
David Catina with 350.
The Pin Busters busted
out of the cellar when
James Ontko and Sean
Kerpovich both hit 318 to
stop the powerful Gutter-
ettes, who again had
Michele Edwards with
439, the Pin Busters had
three points.
The Strikers and Smur-
fettes played to a two and
two tie. For the Strikers it
was Matt Hrivnak 484 and
Danny Patton with 381,
while for the Smurfettes it
was Karen Betnar 348 and
Colleen Brown with 346
kept the Smurfettes on
top.
The last match was a
four point win for the
Flyers, who had Kevin
Donlin with 347 while the
Dallas . Cowboys Shawn
Keener came up with a
372.

The faculty of Wyoming
Valley West High School
recently announced the
selection of Stanley
Gavlick as ‘‘student of the
month” for February, a
program sponsored by the
Kingston-Forty Fort
Lions Club.
A member of the senior
class, Stanley is listed in
Who’s Who of American
High School Students and.
currently serves as
president of the Student
Council. Stan is also a
member of the National
Honor Society and
Spartan wrestling team.
He has served on the
staffs of the ‘“West Side
Story’ and Spartan Year-
book.
After graduation,
Stanley plans to attend
Villanova University to
follow a program of
studies in Mechanical
Engineering. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Gavlick, Swoyersville.
COUSINS CELEBRATE: Pictured above are two

apart. Tara Lynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Dombroski, R. 66 Poplar St., Kingston. She will
be one year old on March 9. Her grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. John Dombroski, Wilkes-Barre and Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Novroski, Swoyersville. Great grand-
mothers are Mrs. Anna Gulla and Mrs. Edna Novroski.
Carissa is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Hunter
of Main St., Swoyersville. She was one year old March 8.

musical play, especially

Residents and near neigh-
bors include a witch, a
grouchy elf and even a
talking carrot! Pre-
schoolers and elementary
school students will
delight in the whimsical
tale and musical fun!

at 7 p.m., Saturday,
March 5, at 2 p.m. and 7
p.m. and Sunday, March 6
at 2 p.m.
Performances will be
theatre only (no meal) at
a special admission price
of $4. per person. In addi-
tion, the play is available
for performances at
schools and other

The new Swoyersville
Teeners Baseball
Organization recently
held registration at the
Swoyersville Borough
Building, with Paul
Pasek, Ted Gabel, Don
Covert and Anthony
Strish handling the job.
The new Swoyersville
organization was recently
accepted as a member of
the Pittston Teeners
League and will play
against the teams of the
Greater Pittston area on a
home and away basis. The
team’s home field will be
Roosevelt Field and it
promises to give the local
fans a good brand of base-
ball.
Another registration
was held last weekend
.and the results will follow
next week. Anyone in-
terested in managing,
coaching and helping out
is welcome. A mother’s
formed and mothers are
asked to get active.
The bi-monthly meeting
of the Luzerne County
Fire Police Association
will be conducted at the
Maltby Fire Dept.,
Swoyersville on March 16
at 7:30 p.m.

accepted by the financial
secretary for the county
and state. William Baird,
Sr., will preside.
An election will be con-
ducted at this meeting for
a ‘‘fire-policeman-of-the-
