ST. JOHN’S AID HOSPICE--Kindergarten class of St.
John’s Luzerne, under direction of their teacher Mrs.
Margaret Semanek and Cookie Project Chairman Ruthie
O'Dell, decorated coffee cans for Hospice St. John
patients and their families. Volunteers of the Hospice
made cookies to fill and distributed them to the patients
for the holidays. Hospice St. John is a certified home
health care agency. It is also a division of Lutheran
Welfare Service and a member of the United Way of
Wyoming Valley. Members of the St. John’s Kinder-

An application for a
grant in excess of $300,000
has been sent to the
Department of Com-
munity Affairs for
Luzerne Borough by its
planning engineers. The
grant application is being
made for a storm sewer
project in the Kelly Street
area of the municipality.
Residents of the area
signed a petition indica-
ting their need for new
storm sewers to replace
stalled many years ago
under a Federal work
project.
The box culvert is a
walled-in type facility
which has created
problems in severe storm
situations through the
years.
James Suponcec,
borough coordinator, sent
the petitions to the
residents of the area and
indicated that the borough
would provide storm
sewer service for some
400 families if the grant is
