Born in Wilkes-Barre on Jan. 1, 1908, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ida Davis Bartlett. He resided most of his life in Wilkes-Barre and was a resident of Dallas for the past 10 years. A graduate of Coughlin High School, he had been employed as a credit manager by Woodlawn Dairy before retiring. He was a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church, and George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531 F&AM. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Evans, two daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Bowersox of Williamsport and Angeles, Cal.; a son, Charles E. He was employed by D&H and Loree Colliery and later by General Motors, retiring in 1965 because of ill health. Byron Harris, 72, of 133 Wardan Ave., Trucksville, died Dec. 11 in Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Plymouth, a son of the late John and Cora Griffiths Harris. Educated in Plymouth High School and Bucknell University, he was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. He did post graduate work at Bellevue Hospital and New York University Hospital, New York City. Following graduation, he established practice in Bellefonte, Pa., until World War Il. During World War Il, he served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army and was commanding officer of, the 42nd Portabld Hospital, supporting Gen. Merrill's Mavuraders in the China-Burma- India Theatre. At this time, he also served with Gen. Gordon Seagrve, noted medical missionary and author. During World War 1I, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, as well as numerous other decorations. Following World War 1l, he established practice in Kingston and Wilkes-Barre and eventually was elected chief of surgery at Wilkes-Barre General retiring in 1967. Society of Abdominal Surgeons and a Diplomat to American Board of Abdominal Surgery. He was also a member of Lodge 61, F&AM, Wilkes-Barre; Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg and Irem Temple. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are” his wife, the former Helen Kittinger; sons, John, Chester Heights, Pa.; Harold, Dallas, Texas; James, Columbus, Ohio; sister, Mrs. Raymond Frey, Plymouth.
