The tourney is a member-member affair and we’ll be among the guys chopping around in search of some much needed pars and birds. Ed is playing pretty well, but this early in the year anything can happen. I understand Mark Farrell and his parents motored down to Philly last week to see the Mets and Phillies play, Mark rooted the Mets to a victory. When King’s replaced Ed Donohue as athletic director last week it came as a bit of a surprise. But then King’s has always done some strange things with its athletic program. Ed has done a very respectable job for the Monarchs, but according to several sources they weren't too happy with some of his flip comments of late. He’s still a darn good basketball coach in my book, but going down to Division Three hasn’t set very well with many of the alumns. Wouldn't surprise me to see big Ed move on in the immediate future. Local schoolboy wrestlers considering a clinic or camp this summer will be interested in the one the Back Mountain Wrestlaing Club is co-sponsoring with Clarion assistant Jack Davis. Camp is slated for July 6 at West Side Tech and will run all week. Davis’ “The Clarion Way’’ camp will be staffed by several of the Clarion mat stars and they'll cover the latest techniques and moves step by step. Cost is a mere $50. We recommend it to all grapplers. Former Valley West and Army Gridder Rick Reese, now a captain in the Army, played some golf at Irem Saturday. We helped recruit Rick for the Point and we're mighty proud of what he’s accomplished in the service thus far. He's a prime example of what West Point is all about. If Bill Jenkins continues to improve his golf game he can forget about his high handicap. We watched Saturday as he collected a birdie and a bunch of fantasy pars on the front side at Irem. Things went hay-wire on the back but he still wound up with a very respectable round of golf. Here’s some thoughs on the pro-football draft. Rams will select two of the first 50 players and seven of the first 100...Jets will pick four of the first 50, while the Colts will get four of the first 51. Jets will take six of the first 100 players selected. Vikings and Bills will each draft five of the first 100...Chargers will not select a player in the top 100, while the Cowboys will tab only two...Lions and Falcons are next with four apiece of the top 100...The Eagles will pick 23rd and 53rd and won’t have another until no. 136...Jets and Rams could really bolster their teams with some quality players. One change I'd like to see in the NFL would be the adoption of the two-point attempt after touchdowns which was poplar in the old AFL...National champion Iowa has agreed to wrestle Clarion on Dec. 9. Seems strange Coach Dan Gable will wrestle Clarion; while Lehigh and Wilkes want no part of the Golden Eagles for obvious reasons...Can’t believe CBS is going to dump George Allen off its football crew. I liked his analysis. Chances for a state playoff in football appear to be slim and none at this point. Too many school officials putting skids to somethign which could upgrade our schoolboy football...I guess my Bosox are in for another near-miss season again. They simply give up too many runs...Have you been following the NBA and how they seem to entice top college prospects to declare hardship? They've turned me off with their gypsy image several years ago. They create the prima-donnas and then can’t discipline them. Lake-Lehman coach Roger Bearde tells me with the way the current baseball schedule is set up you've got to find four pretty fair pitchers if you want to make a legit run for title...Wonder how many TV commercials the Rangers will make this year after their recent flop in NHL playoffs? They're prime example of how not to handle prosperity. Me, I'd like to see the Islanders win it all. I'm skeptical about the Flyers all though they are solid in goal.
