Edmund P. Davis,
operator of nine Burger
King Restaurants in the
Scranton-Wilkes-Barre
area, has been selected as
one of the nation’s 10 best
franchise operators by
Burger King Corporation.
The ‘‘Operations
Kxcellence’’ honor is
presented to franchisees
who best maintain Burger
King standards for high
quality food, speed of
service, restaurant
cleanliness and pleasant
atmosphere, courtesy
towards customers and
overall management
techniques.
The first Burger King in
the area was opened by
Davis in 1967 at Kingston.

Davis has served six
years on the advisory
board to Burger King
Corporation and is an
original member of the
Burger King Licensee
Educational Group of
selected Burger King
Licensees.

honor to Davis at the
company’s recent bien-
nial business develop-

A native of Taylor,
Davis lives in Dallas with
his wife, Ruth. They have
two daughters, = Kim
Richards, Dallas; and
Pam Willitam's,
Downington. They also
have three grandchildren.
Davis graduated from
Taylor High School and
attended the University of
Scranton. © Prior to
opening the first Burger
King at Kingston, he was
sales manager for Josten,
Inc.
He is a member of
LEG, Licensee
Educational Group, a
select group of multi-unit
Burger King operators.
Membership in the
organization is by in-
vitation only. There are
only 20 members from
California to Alaska to
Maine, representing
about eight percent of
Burger King’s business.
His brother-in-law,
William Powell, is
associated with him in the
restaurants.
Under Davis direction
there are close to 500
employees, many of them
from the Back Mountain
area. Managers ‘of. the
restaurants are all local
and hoses.

of Davis’ time but: when
‘he does have leisure time.
he enjoys music of all
kinds. He is a talented
musician and plays the
organ.
He does a lot of reading
much of it related to the
food business.
He meets four times
