To aftain the Dean’s List, a student must earn a drama by Dan Wright a grade point average of 3.6 out of a perfect 4.0. Messiah College is a four-year Christian liberal’ arts institution of some 1200 students with its main campus located at Grantham, ten miles southwest of Harrisburg, and its urban campus adjacent to Temple University in Philadelphia. Arthur Bowen has been appointed central area manager for Com- monwealth Telephone Company, according - to John A. Heller, vice president of operations for the telephone utility. In this position Bowen will have overall responsibilities for provision and main- tenance of telecom- munications service in a five . county area of Eastern = Pennsylvania. He will oversee the area’s construction program, telephone installation and maintenance for some 46,500 residence and business customers,’ as well as maintenance of central office switching equipment. Bowen has held various positions with Com- monwealth in the engineering and operations departments, the most recent being Towanda Area Manager. R.H. Price promoted Robert H. Price, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Price of 170 N. Memorial Highway, Shavertown, Pa., has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of staff sergeant. Dr. Mark David Jackson, former Upper Merion resident and Swoyersville resident and currently on the research staff of Bell Laboratories, Chicago, and Dr. James L. McClelland, University of California, San Diego, have co-authored; a research study titled “Processing Determi- nants of Reading Speed.” The project was sup- ported by grants from the National Science Foun- dation and National Institutes of Health. The results of the study, which appeared in the ‘‘Journal of Experimental Psychology : General 1979,” supported the conclusion that one skill allowing fast readers to capture more information from each reading fixation is faster access to letter codes from print. Jackson, a graduate of Upper Merion Area High School and Swarthmore College where he was awarded Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma XI, and out- standing athlete honors, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jasper Rd., King of Prussia.
