SOBER-Back Mountain Jaycees conducted a special project last Saturday demonstrating the importance of remaining sober over the holidays. Jaycees joined with others in overturning and leaving a car upside down along the highway entering Dallas. S.0.B.E.R. means “Slow on the Bottle-Enjoy the Road” and the local project was conducted under the leadership of Ed Jones. Police Reports Parked car runs away A parked car ran away and damaged a photo booth in the Dallas Shopping Center Monay morning, Dallas Borough Police report. Police said that Judy Steltz, 38, of RD 1, Sweet Valley told them she did not remember whether the car had been left in gear or if the emergency brake had been booth, causing some damage to the structure. Investigating was Chief Edward Lyons. Nichols, Brace sent to court In two separate hearings Tuesday, two Harveys Lake residents were bound over to Luzerne County Court to stand trial on drug charges. Simultaneously they were arraigned on another drug charge and scheduled for a hearing in Wyoming County next week. ¢ Bound over were George Nichols and Diane Brace after District Magistrate Leonard Harvey of Dallas and District Magistrate Earl Gregory of Shavertown ruled Before Magistrate Harvey, Nichols was ordered to stand trial on two counts of possession and delivery and count was continued, while Brace was released on her own recognizance after bail was initially set at $10,000 for one count. Before Magistrate Gregory Nichols was continued in his’ origianl $5,000 bail on one count of possession and delivery, while Brace was released on her own recognizance after bail was initially set at $5,000 for one count. At the same time Magistrate Gregory scheduled for Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. before District Magistrate Herbert Downs of Tunkhannock a hearing for the two one count of possession and delivery. Bail for each was set at $5,000 with bail arrangements pending as of press time. Each incident alleged against the two involved a reported sale of drugs to an undercover agent of the Pennsylvania State Police earlier this year. Postmasters ask aid in clearing boxes Rural Mail Carriers expect to deal with more than their share of snow and sleet and freezing rain, but Postmaster Bernard Gawlas today reminded customers in the Dallas Area that his carriers will need some assistance during winter months. Rural. carriers will make every reasonable effort to serve as many customers as possible during severe winter weather, but Gawlas said carriers are not expected to leave their vehicles and provice service on foot when roads, entire blocks, or other large portions of their routes are im- passable. Ronald Ashton, Mt. Olivet Rd., told police on Sunday that someone cut down a pine tree in his yard and took it, while last Tuesday Louis Bradbury, Ryman Rd., reported to police that a forced entry was made to his home, though nothing of value seemed to have been taken. Hit-run driver sought An Idetown woman's car was damaged by a hit-run driver along the Harveys Lake highway early Friday morning, according to Dallas Twp. Car hits trees A Dallas man escaped injury Friday morning when his car left Route 415 near the entrance to Elmecrest and struck some trees, according to Dallas Twp. Police. Donald Rittenhouse, 102 Pinecrest Ave., Dallas, told police that his car left the road just beyond Natona Mills as he was headed north and struck the trees on the side. Car damaged in lot A car belonging to a Back Mountain area woman was damaged by a hit-run driver while parked in the lot of Commonwealth Telephone Co., Lake St., Dallas, Sunday, ‘Dallas Twp. Police report. Betsy Carey, 47 Claude St., told police she parked the car in the lot and returned some time later to find the right side damaged.
